Hey everyone... I got a question ...

First off... let me say that I have never in 7 years of consistent hardcore lifting been injured.. came close... but never was injured so bad that I had to stay out of the gym for an extended period of time.

about 14 days ago I was doing squats and I felt a very sharp pain in my right leg... in the muscle ... vasteus lateralus region... right where the belly of the muscle is... or you could say... it was where the common quad injection point is.

Now being stuborn and stupid I continued to work out... just did about 12 sets of leg extentions (starting at a very light weight and moving slowly up) ... I had figured that this had somthing to do with my thursday injection (which was there)... I figured I just needed to warm up the muscle ... i was wrong... it kept getting worse and worse until finaly I went home pissed off.. I didnt have time to ice it imediatley when I got home since i had some yardwork to do... by the end of the day I was limping relaly bad and it hurt to bend my leg. I went home and iced it and it felt better... took some IB and called it a day. I woke up and it still hurt like hell so I went to the gym anyway... kept goign to the gym till thursday when I stayed home... when i woke up thursday I could not bend my leg... and it was swollen really bad... my entire quad was bloated and swollen... the swelling had gotten down over the top of my kneecap and it hurt like hell... so I kept iceing it and it just stayed the same... swolen... hurting... ect... went to the doc last tuesday and he said that I needed to elevate my leg and ice it... gave me some vicoden and said goodbye... I started elevating my leg and icing it like he said... swelling has now gone down a whole lot... pretty much all the way... but I still can not bend my leg... whenever I do it feels like my IT band is going to snap... the injection site area where the tear was is still swollen and when I press down on it it feels like there is a knot in the muscle. I started heating my leg and keeping it elevated as I read that heat helps the body repair damaged tissues and also that it helps break down scar tissue... im able to semi-walk on it now... but I still can not bend my leg. The area is not hot... I dont have a fever... and there are no other signs of infection.. I took a z-pack that I had just in case...

I am really worried that they will have to go in and remove somthing ... I was wondering if anyone knew anything about calsification and if they did could they tell me how long that usualy takes to manifest itselft.

what if anything should I be doing to help this along

if I am doing everythign right can someone please tell me how long I am going to be debilitated like this...

any other helpfull info would be very very appreciated...

thanks in advance to all that reply :-)

Ice it for now. Continue with anti-inflamatories. Did you doc not give you any info and just a script? He should have diagnosed. It does sound like a tear though. If all he did was write you a script and never told you what he thought could be wrong - call that fucker back immediately and get an answer, I'm sure it's in your chart so even a nurse can read it. Does he know you can hardly walk? I feel like I'm missing something there. Anyway, if you don't think he knows it's as bad as it is call him or update him in a few days by phone and just see ask if he recommends doing anything different. You might have to talk through nurses but this isn't a big deal, you aren't dying.

A bummer nonetheless. I've had my share of injuries and the "ouch that will bother me for a week and be better" variety seems to be a lot less common with age (meaning now all I get are serious multimonth totally sidelining injuries when I get hurt - and it's never from lifting). So, get yourself a good book. Maybe learn to play an instrument. You'll be fine but now you have some time on your hands for a bit if it's a long recovery (your doc really should have told you some of this shit - it's unacceptable for you to be in the dark with a script).

no heat for now.....Rest Ice Elevation Compression..when the swelling goes down u can start heat and massage therapy to get new blood in the area.
