Insulin degradation over 8-12 months

grandad died about a year ago, completely forgot I picked up all his insulin from his house, so I have about 150 cartridges of novorapid, stupidly I put them in a bag and forgot to refrigerate, they’re in the fridge now ( for about a month) and no cloudiness or change in colour or smell, I know they won’t have the same potency but do you think they’re still worth using, or at this point do I need to just throw them out ? It’s not a big deal either way, insulin isn’t expensive and I’ve started stocking up on new pens anyway, just wondering if anyone knows how much they’ve degraded or if they need to be thrown

Easy way to find out - check fasted BG with a glucometer then pin 2iu of insulin, wait 20-30min and check again. If BG is lower, then it’s working as intended.

Sorry for your loss brother. But I bet that insulin would still work pretty well. Just do what dude said and check BG after using it.

insulin definitely loses potency over time, at a faster rate at higher temps.
that being said should still work but 10ui may be like 8 but it's sort of irelevant, you just pin acording to your BG not a random UI number

Thank you bro ! I’m gonna try BG and compare results to a new pen and hopefully work out how much it’s degraded from there and adjust dosage

Me too mate, honestly so grateful for you guys on here filling in the bits of info I haven’t thought of or missed, I’ve not been on here long but the access to knowledge and being able to talk to guys with more experience is spot on
