New to the forum…to be honest, I’ve become extremely boring now that I’m old!

For real, I’m nearing (what I once considered) “old man” territory, by every metric, lol! (i.e. age, trade, etc.)

My pertinent history: competed in powerlifting - 148 lb. wt. class (giant by NO means) miniature compared to most; competed in a few INBF “Natural” shows during my first couple years of college, realized drinking was a LOT more fun than dieting! lol!

Finished school (USM - B.S. Nutrition and Dietetics), got CPR/AED/First Aid Certified, National Strength and Conditioning Assoc. CPT certified, and moved to Austin, TX where I began working as a CPT @ 24 HF in Austin, TX from 2006-13; competed in a couple of short-length triathlons during that time (for the sake of doing it w/a client). Although I was more or less simply there to go through the motions and finish ALIVE, not ACTUALLY competing w/anyone but myself. My roommates were trainers, too, but actually competed on national levels. I said eff that! I prefer bodybuilding/powerlifting…

After a few years of failing to stay in a routine I’m finally back in a groove! Been maintaining strength and size off-and-on ever since, def more difficult with a fam and what-not.

At the moment, not looking to compete, at least not in the next year, just looking to get into MUCH better shape (dad bod creeps up QUICKLY). Gotta nip that in the bud and get back where I was! I’m sure you know how that goes!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone, gaining as much info. as possible, and contributing (albeit most likely not much) what and when I can! I spent a tremendous amount of time studying exercise phys./biochemistry/and even delved into coaching and sports psychology for my M.S….so, I’m not the most knowledgeable when it comes to the most up-to-date compounds, I am VERY a aware of the tried-and-true methodologies behind training/dieting/etc. (the important stuff). Not to dismiss the “extracurriculars”or that aspect at all…simply stating facts: I certainly need to brush up on my knowledge.

I am a big believer in spreading only scientific, (as close to) objective, indisputable information, anecdotal evidence and here say mean essentially nothing to me (my dad taught me: “don’t believe anything you hear and only believe half of what you see”). BTW: I grew up in Mississippi…so, two things should have prefaced all this: 1) I moved (literally) the day I graduated college to Austin, TX (to escape living in (what felt like) a time period a century behind the rest of the United States, lol! 2) I may be ignorant about a lot of things but I’ve always taken them in stride-recognized them, adapted, and changed. (MS primary schools weren’t the greatest).

It wasn’t until I attended Texas State that I really stepped up my learning (when I enrolled in advanced macronutrient metabolism, adv. micro met., etc…you know: the nice and VERY boring stuff, lol! So, I may not have much knowledge to offer, but I’m certainly willing to answer any questions I can! Esp. pertaining to training & nutrition (my B.S. is in Nutrition and Dietetics, M.S. Sport Coaching and Education). I do have > 5k sessions services w/ 24 HF (and qualified as a “Master Trainer,” which is basically a “Certified Personal Trainer III” which had met the following criteria:

1. 3 certs and
2. Serviced 2,000, 50-minute personal training sessions.

OR

1. 2 certs and
2. Degree in related field and
3. Serviced 2,000, 50-minute sessions.

So, I have plenty of empirical knowledge from training a WIDE variety of clients-from wealthy Worldwide-Known Poker Players to behind-the-scenes Engineers from Apple (the guys worth $90 mil+) and National Instruments to former heroin addicts…my only redeemable trait was that I would train the poorest and the richest - treated people just the same. And (technically) I’m still certified (I maintain my CEU’s-NASM & NSCA) but I don’t train on a regular basis anymore…

Needless to say: I’m behind on many research topics which I previously followed vehemently. I recognize the need to network w/fellow bodybuilders/powerlifters, etc. to get back up to speed!

Looking forward to meeting some fun people, learning some cool Schmidt, and getting as swole as possible (and obvs following safe, risk-reducing practice and spreading knowledge pertaining to risk-aversion)!

Cheers!
