Keto and cramps

Been on the keto diet for maybe 6 to 8 weeks. I have lost quite a bit of fat and I feel much better mentally then I ever have but I have had 1 side effect that worries me and that is I get muscle cramps really easily. And what's weird about them is that my muscle almost feels like its locking up. I do let myself eat between 20 to 40 carbs a day and I know I'm starving my body but I can't imagine others have this issue. Looking for some answers on what other deficiency I may have that's causing cramps other than no carbs

Are u at least doing a carb refeed once a week or so? It is important to replinish glycogen stores if regularly weight training. Technically your body will turn protien into glycogen so it is not necessarry but could cut back on some cramping. Keto also tends to keep a diet low in sodium and magnesium which affects pottasium absorbtion which could also be an issue. So magnesium supplementation and adding some extra salt to your diet could help.

Keto is not ideal for muscle growth but is ideal for fat loss. This does not mean you cannot gain muscle on keto. Just means once you hit your weight goal it is counter productive to lift weights and keto year round imo. I lost alot of weight doing keto some years back but as my goals changed so did my diet.

Right on il and some more electrolytes and maybe see if I can find a potassium and magnesium supplement. I'm off cycle not trying to gain muscle just trying to get that beach bod

I always do Keto between bulks. If I could gain the same amount of muscle as high carbs I would do it year around. 4k calories Keto is so easy to get in vs carbs. That being said, watch the sodium in your fatty foods and drink Keto aid(recipes online) for electrolytes and supplement with potassium pills. I also supplement with magnesium citrate, helps me poop too since Keto clogs me up bad.
