Knee Pain

I know that squats are essential to building mass but ever since I started doing squats regularly my knees have been hurting.

Any suggestion?

Squat all the way down. Today, while doing Olympic style squats, my training partner's butt actually touched the ground during one rep. A little higher than that is an example of what you should strive for. Let the weight push you down deep into the "hole".

Also, pick up some neoprene knee sleeves from a CVS, Brooks, or some other pharmacy. These help quite a bit.

You may try and open up your stance a little wider (if your stance is too narrow, you will put too much stress on the knee and cause yourself some pain when you go parellel.. You may also need to strengthen your hips.. If your hips are weak they will make your knee's turn in when you drive the weight up..

Weak hips will cause your knees to turn in, and a narrow stance will cause knee pain (like putting a rock in a hinge)

What what you suggest for hip strengthening. Given that I don't know what excersize to strengthen hips I would probably need the excersize explained. Thank you very much!

Pull throughs... Glute Ham Raises... Reverse Hypers...Deadlifting (you can go to the dual factor thread that is a sticky here and see pictures of everyone of these exercises) Also you may start squating off of the box, this will really help you refine your form.
