I'm interested in purchasing a LM set. This might be a stupid question but Do I need to buy the whole suitcase thing at first?

I never did. I bought a refill kit and a flashlight.

you can just get a few vials but you need UV light.

the case simply contains all kind of test vials, UV light and it is cheaper per vial if you buy the whole thing. it is like $5 per vial if you buy the whole set.
