Low Testosterone at 19

I recently had my testosterone levels tested because I was concerned about my complete lack of facial hair and low energy. They came back at 175 with a reference range of 240-820. FSH and LH were "normal", but I don't have numbers for them.

My doctor is a pediatric endocrinologist. He says he's not concerned because my numbers are only "slightly low". 175 seems pretty damn low to me. I'm having my free level checked today and if that is low as well, he'll give me a referral to an adult endo, but that probably I won't get treatment "just for lack of facial hair". I've been to several doctors for chronic fatigue and have always been told to sleep more (I sleep 9-10 hours per day) and have been treated for depression in the past, so lack of facial hair is not my only symptom.

What can I tell my doctor to convince him that this is a serious problem for me? I feel like I'm basically being told to fuck off and he's only doing the tests to humor me.

Im in the same boat as you. I would find an endo to get your test leels in the upper range and see how you feel. I personally didnt 100% better as far as the fatigue goes.. but it def helps.

Most doctors and endos don't give a crap.

I'm going to try TRT myself for atlest 3 months and see how I feel.

We'll see...

Get a copy of the blood tests, don't take no for an answer.

Look for another Endo, call a few and ask for a phone consult, interested in being a patient, ask about TRT, self-injections, HCG, Arimidex.... etc...

Do you have a family Dr. ask him if he will treat and test you over the phone with Dr. John at www.allthingsmale.com Your family Dr. does not need to know anything Dr. John will find out why your like this and fix it if it can be fixed if not he will get you started on TRT.

Best thing I reckon is to educate yourself as much as possible on the situation and the tests etc etc. Go in and smack your doc around with your knowledge cos it sounds like this dipshit doesnt know anything. Find a doc willing to work WITH u.

Just shows how terrible mainstream medicine is with hypogonadism, your outside the range and your 19!
There shouldnt be any excuse not to treat you.
Be persistant.

How do I go about finding a good doctor? Is trial and error the only way? The sites I've seen give lists of so many doctors that there's no way I could talk to them all...

If you can travel and have about $1000 to spend over a years time or more you can see Dr. John or Dr Shippen, both leading experts in the field. Dr. John is in Michigan and Shippen in Pennsylvania. At your age it might be worth it to spend the money and go to the best to find out what the hell is going on. I don't know how Dr John works but Shippen will have you run a bunch of labs ahead of time. If you have insurance and go to a PPO lab it should all be covered. It was with mine anyway even though Shippen does not take insurance. The lab was a PPO provider and thats all that mattered.
