Melting point test

Hi guys, is there a way to accurately do a melting point test with a hotplate and an infrared thermometer?
My hotplate warms too speedy.. maybe with some layers of something? Like aluminium, i dont know.. any idea ?

Sealed see-through glass/plastic vessel and water/oil bath.

And a lot of patience, the more accurate you need to be the longer it's gonna take you
