Need Convenient way to increase FIBER

I need to lower my cholesterol a few points (30 to 40). I would rather use suppliments if they are enough to get me where I need to be. I have heard PSYLLIUM works well but do not know much about it. What do you guys take? I am going to go to oatmeal once a day again but need something additional.

Thanks

Try policosanol from puritans pride (www.puritan.com) to lower your cholesterol, one or two caps per day with the evening meal.

As for fiber, Metamucil or somthing like it, a heaped teaspoon in a glass of water in the morning and evening?

I like a nice fiber supplement in powder form. easy but not the tastiest way to do it: combine your fiber powder with the amount of water it suggests, it will be liquid at first, this is when you are "supposed" to drink it. dont drink it... place it in the refrigerator and let sit.. you will soon have a gelatin like substance which is easy to measure in tablespoons, take, and washdown. figure out your dosage by calculating the grams of fiber you want and the amount of water you add, then give it to youself with meals or however you can work it in.

I have found that Psyllium works great for me. Especially on a high protien and fat no carb diet. 6th day can be rough  Comes in caps, is cheap, and has very few calories. No unpleasant taste like powders and such.

There is always the good old bran Flakes or All bran for breakfast, with low fat milk. About 16g of fiber in a small bowl, as well as protein and all sorts of minerals and vitamins

Psyllium is a good supp for fiber. Lotsa soluble fiber there. As far as foods go Brown Rice is superior to Oats in both types of fiber(soluble and non-soluble). Lean Pockets Ultras have 7 grams of fiber per serving(It usually takes 2 servings to fill up)plus 24 grams of protein per serving.

exactly..I use orange flavored metemusil...u gotta drink it as soon as u mix it....the best shits I ever had!!

Psyllium is fantastic; actually saved me from bleeding - yum :)

It's extremely expensive here in the UK (15 for the size of 2 fists!!) though. (looking for a cheaper source btw..)

So I switched to crushed shredded wheat with a bit of whey every morning. Bannanas are good for the digestion but not sure how that fits with your goal. Check out statins too

Psyllium seed husks

You can buy psyllium seed husks in most health food stores. You can add it into your oatmeal and it will help a lot. You can also eat it in yogurt, plain, add to salads, soups, etc.

Pumpkin is very high in fiber. Throw a 1/2 can of cooked pumpkin in your shakes. Much tastier than you might think and a great source of fiber. Flaxseeds are good too. Fiber and Omega 3's

Psyllium is good and is supposed to be easier on the body than other fibers but get tabs if you can because that powder doesn't mix well in liquid and will stick to your teeth(took a while to get off mine). Just make sure to drink enough water with all fiber supps... fiber good to cleans and also cholesterol but there are other things you could take to lower cholesterol

In Australia we have regular metamucil (which is like sawdust) and a fine ground one, Metamucil smooth texture which is virtualy clear when you mix it up. It costs slightly more, but is worth it

Cirtucel is also sommth, disolves totaly
