I know this has been tackled before but I couldn't find it with the search.
I jsut need to get a rack of some kind, a bar some weight (unfortunately not alot of it for now) and a set of dumbells or maybe some of those selectable dumbells. So does anyone have a good and cheap site to buy from or a kit to build or just plans to build a cage.

thanks,
Migity

No nothing yet. I have some old equipment from my family out in the garage but nothing I would need and/or use. My budget is pretty small. 4 or 5 hundred for now but I am not adverse to adding pieces as I go, or getting used and/or making some parts. I fgure this is what I will need.

Rack
bench (maybe two to get incline, flat, and decline positions)
olympic bar
weight
dumbells (I usually use dumbells for my benching, better for my shoulders)

i agree that should be all you need really.. probably cost right about or a tad more than your looking to spend too.

You may want to try Ebay first for some used equipment. But if you can't find it used, then go to Midwest Barbell and talk with Susan. http://www.midwestbarbell.com/catalog/

She has great prices, and GREAT equipment. Get a bar and rack from her if need be. Don't settle for the chrome bars that come with those 300 lb. sets you get at any sporting goods store either. You'll end up bending them as I did. So spend the money on a good one up front.

Tell Susan Jeff W sent you and you'll need the rack and bar that I bought. She might cut you a deal on both. Also, you could forget about the dumbells for now, as your really don't need them. But eventually, I would go with the handles that hold olympic weights. That way you can use your existing weights for both the barbell and the dumbells.

Thanks alot. I had heard people talk about midwest barbell but couldn't remember the name. I should be giving them a call within the next couple of days.

It also seems like you might be pretty new to the iron game? I could be wrong. Regardless, you may want to contact Animalmass in regards to training you. Sure you can do the research and learn by trial and error. That's commendable of course. But AnimalMass might save you some time and will definitely get you headed down the right path in a hurry.

I am relatively new to lifting properly and efficiently. I spent a few years struggling with crappy routines and trying to make upfor it with juice. Now I am clean and bigger and stronger than ever. I wouldlove to get some helpfrom animal mass but I am just a poor college student right now. After I graduate this summer I may hit him up, I have heard some great things.

I agree, midwest barbell is a good site to do business with. Not only that, alot of the equipment includes shipping. Susan was great and runs a great business.:D
