New, looking for how Canadians (ON) get blood work done?

As title says, I'm new here. In Ontario, and wondering how people here access blood work. When I was in USA, it was really easy, I just walked into any lab and paid for whatever I wanted. I don't have a family doctor, and in Canada the labs say you need a referral, but at walk-in clinics they told me it "wasn't needed", because I didn't mention what I was planning to take. Can naturopaths order FSH LH Free T etc tests? Or how do you guys get it done here?

Thanks!

there is telemedicine sites that cost 50 bucks to get a requisition, or go to walk in clinic, just need to give a proper reason.

there is also new at home test that tests a bunch of stuff for like 120 bucks..

or naturopaths apparently can order blood work too, no idea how much a naturopath visit costs though.

I don't really understand what you mean. Just go to a walk in clinic and ask for what you want. Works for me and many other members here.

I have no success in doing this, even my family doctor and urologist won't even test estrogen, let alone the other important markers.

And believe me, I tried asking around. It's not that simple, I'm in BC if that matters.

u need to give a proper reason, not just " want it cause maybe will be important"... you have to think of tests like medication, costs the gov money and people are held accountable. ie cant ask for an antidepressant cause feel sad, but u can say you have XYZ symptoms in order to the the rx.... dont display test seeking behaviour, remember they see a million hypochondriacs a day that want full work up cause had a stomach ache. get a family dr, book a full physical(get a longer time booked) and will be much easier to get in the work up.. remember walk in docs dont want to nor should they open a can of worms they aren't prepared for ie RXing long term medication and also getting to a specialist they need proper reason and exhaust there own knowledge.

also 50$ gets u blood req from tele med companies..

sorry, I should of read instead of typing smart ass comments ;) at any rate, most still applies describe symptoms not just flat out ask...

Which telemed does this?
My Dr just retired and the new women was taking me off everything.
Was huge fight.

Nearest town is 2hrs away, I can't just switch Dr's. It's the only Dr.

Went to walking amd same issue.
All they would test on my estradiol. That's it.
So I know I was low - 40pmol but Zero clue on test or liver...

Second issue is if you show over range for test in Canada your life insurance can void when they pull your medical history.

Would love private bloodwork here.

there are a few, name escapes me. like "for hers" but in canada iirc. in Ontario u actually have way more options and prob will even get covered by ur gov... "antibiotic RX telemedicine canada" in google, usually have an option for requisition prior to dr consult. good luck!!

Yes naturopaths can order you any blood work you want. Thats how i got mine done in Canada. My naturopath had a book full of blood tests and what each costs, she told me to pick what i wanted.

I dont recall the cost but it was $500+ it wasnt cheap. I even got IGF-1 done. I wanted but noped out of the DHT test as that alone was like $150.

If you are close enough to the border that a day trip is possible I'd just go to the US and get everything and anything tested you want. No stress trying to get doctors to give you what you want and need to maximize your own life.

In Ontario you can just use teletest.ca, say you're a TRT user. Make sure that aren't, to the best of your knowledge, using any other AAS or SERMs/SARMs apart from your doctor prescribed TRT at the time of your appointment. If you are using any of the above just make sure to quit taking them a few minutes before your appointment so you can honestly tell the doctor that you're just on TRT.

Alternatively you can pay up at BloodtestsCanada.com

I'm not saying this'll work every time, but this is what I did. I just created an account at getmaple and got the GP which was covered by my medical(if you're in Ontario I think you're covered too right?) So I got to speak to a doctor right away and I told him I wanted to check hormones and lipids because I'm using steroids. When he asked why I'm using steroids I told him I was feeling weak, exhausted all the time, struggling with allergies from dust in my area, in spite of the fact I don't do drugs, drink, or smoke, I eat healthy and get exercise. I heard people talking about how steroids can give you energy and lower inflammation, so I decided to give them a try. It was the truth anyways. Seems like I got lucky and got a guy with some compassion. Maybe it'll work for you, GL, or you can always use that telemed thingy but it costs a bit I guess.

maple health u wouldn't need to tell them u do steroids... thats all they do is u can buy reqs. you may pay more for health/life insurance once roid use is on your record.

Oops sounds like I just fkd myself...so anyways you just tell em you want hormones tested they charge you 50 bucks or smth like telemed? Also I'm kinda curious now, once superhuman testosterone is on your health record does that not count as roids for insurance purposes?

no as need a diagnosis. it will be fine just something to keep in mind. chances are the DR is cool and won't make a note even.

its a bit more of an issue if live in the states as u basically need health insurance.

Yeah I'm still a bit unsure how these online testing sites are supposed to work? I mean I can't draw my own blood so I assume I need to go to still go into a lab.

This Naturopaths thing... what would I tell them if I wanted the bloodwork? This whole thing seems a bit risky just because all these tests will go on your health record and I've had extremely negative experiences with health care providers in my province. I find they are extremely controlling and basically won't listen to anything you tell them and won't even provide me my bloodwork results from my physicals.

They're not actually online testing. They're telehealth clinics for getting your requisition, which you still have to take to a DynaCare or LifeLabs. You can't get bloodwork without a requisition so the services people are pointing to here are for getting requisitions.

I’ve been looking for a solution to this for some time.

There are a lot of options for testing/getting the requisitions others have mentioned, but I haven’t come across anything yet that wouldn’t end up on record.

@Megadick3000, would I be making an ass of myself to assume that using a naturopath goes through the same channels as other lab requisitions? ie lab results end up accessible through health records?

TeleTest offers semi-anonymous testing. If you don't want results tied to your health records, leave your healthcard number blank when ordering, but you will have to pay out-of-pocket for the test.
