I'm a mid-40s man and I'm looking for a new workout forum. Many, many years ago I was active on Elite Fitness (under a different name). It used to be a good place and I checked it out recently but it just seems... sketchy. Anyway, I've been fit my whole lift but didn't get serious about lifting until my late 20s. I did a couple cycles back then but eventually took a "federal" job. I always considered the risk too high for the reward and prohormones were good enough. But times change.
I've been plateaued for a few years now. My deadlift max was 535 about 3 years ago and I can deadlift 450 any day of the week. I can easy hit 500 after a few weeks of training to get my form and neural system trained back up. But I've backed off heavy deads because I'm worried about my midsection getting too thick. My max squat was 410 around the same time 2 years ago, but I did hit 405x2 about 2 months ago (don't worry, full depth). I don't train heavy on barbell bench due to impingement issues.
I'm 6'2" and my current stats are 240-245lbs and about 15-16%bf. Genetically speaking I'm probably 40% ectomorph and 60% mesomorph. If I quit lifting I drop about 10lbs pretty fast. It seems like I've gained and lost the same 10 lbs (235-245) over and over again for years. My set body weight used to be about 185 but I've probably reset it to 220ish.
My goal is to stay mid-240s but at about 10-12%bf. Specifically, I want to add 1" to my 17" arms. I want to add 2" to my 16" calves. Hopefully dropping down to 12%bf will bring my waist down from 38" to 36". I also need to add thickness to my mid and lower traps. Overall I want to look like an "amateur bodybuilder" but not obviously "chemical".
I've done all kinds of weight training but I keep gravitating back to the Madcow 5x5 system. I want more of a bodybuilder build than a powerlifter build, but I just keep gravitating back to heavy weight and low reps.
I'm on HRT at a dose of 200mg every other week. I've read that's a pretty low dose on workout forums, but other places seem to think that's normal to maybe a little high. I get my blood tested 2x a year and that dose keeps me "normal". I had to be very careful about prohormones so they wouldn't throw my blood work off, which happened once. The doc asked why I was higher than normal and I said it was because I got off my normal schedule and had screwed up my injection cycle.
So that's me.
Also, I'm wicked funny. Seriously.
