Old school BMX fans?

My son just got into bmx and I'm looking to get a bike for myself to ride with him.

One thing that I've learned abt modern day bmx (Its really street freestyle but it's all called "bmx" now) is how affordable it really is and I think that is badass for kids! It's simpler now than it used to be. A good bmx bike nowadays can be purchased for the same price as my 1986 GT pro performer was, and parts are pretty cheap, plus these things are lightweight and built like tanks! The recommended tire pressure on these new bmx bikes is around 110 psi!

I got my son's bike off Facebook marketplace for 100$ and it was probably a 500$ bmx bike new with abt another 200$ in upgrades and weighs in at just 24 lbs.

I'm not out to die getting back into this with him, but the hobby has definitely helped us spend time together and he isn't looking at me the way other kids see their boring parents! I've grabbed his bike and said "ok, let me try something here" enough times that I'm getting a bmx bike for myself at 39 years old.

Just scored this interceptor a couple weeks ago. Thing is pretty much all original minus the seat.View attachment 124579 View attachment 124580
I had that frame when I was 11, old man backed over it I was devastated. Did a fair amount of hard tail dirt jumping, no parks where I grew up. Little bit of street but the risk was high in the mtns, stairs are huge and steep. Next setup I had was a Mosh...

I think he passed away this year now that I think about it , suicide it was?
Yes, upon the autopsy of his brain it's being assumed that a series of traumatic head injuries may have screwed with the wiring in his brain. It's unfortunate

Ok, I had one of those proud fatherly moments last night that I had to share with you guys. We went and rode at this place that's covered up (since all it's done has fucking rained lately) and I was practicing my manuals on his bike, which I'm getting better at but they're kind of scary now.

Well he had a 2x4 on the ground he was trying to bunny hop over, I took a turn and cleared it fairly easy. The he got smart with me and started stacking shit up to about knee height or so and said ,"Ok, now TRY jumping this one" and I just said fuck it and rode towards it.

In my mind I said ,"if someone was gonna kill your family if you didn't jump this could you do it? Just went at it fearless man. I jumped the shit out of that stack of boards and when I landed it was like this shot of excitement, like I was 13 years old all over again. He began shouting "NO WAY, YOU ACTUALLY DID IT!! OMG!!!"

I'm working on finding a style of riding that makes dad a badass but one that doesn't fuck him up too bad. I don't think it exists really. I'm probably heading down a really dangerous road but oh well.

Something that will make you feel like shit is haggling a 10 year old on a used bike. I can't do it, I'll find one on marketplace and if the profile is a kid I'll move to the next one, haha

It was more freestyle but I had a early 1990s GT Aggressor. Pitbull brakes, peregrines, aftermarket kneesavers, gyro, fold out pegs on the front, bash guard you name it. It was the most tricked out ride at school by a wide margin. I made a deal with my dad and won so he bought me this $600 bike lol. I also had a couple Haro Masters, Group 1a, and some cheaper dynos here and there.
