Packages going in other people's mailbox

I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else, if so....what happened?

I live somewhere that doesn't have individual mailboxes. It has a group of mailboxes in one box. Makes it easy for usps to fuck up and put packages in wrong mailboxes.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so what happened or how did you handle it?

This is honestly my biggest fear lol.

It happened to me last week, but luckily the woman that got my package knocked on my door and handed it to me. Unopened luckily.

If they opened it the would be committing a federal crime
That crime is not enforced in the USA. Happens all the time everywhere. If you get a piece of mail in your mailbox one would assume it's yours and open it without looking at the address or name.

When mail is stolen out of a mailbox and opened (usually drug addicts do this to commit fraud or identity theft) its a different story. Law enforcement aggressively punishes those crimes.

who opens mail without looking at the name? I find this ignorant. Regardless if its your house or not people should know that humans deliver the mail so there is always human error. And if someone is that complacent and opens someone elses mail they should go to jail.

I agree but that's not how it works. No one goes to jail for opening mail that's in their mailbox. I've opened my wife's packages on accident, I've open my childs packages on accident. It's extremely common. I'm not sure how that's ignorant. I'd you live alone would you expect a package for someone who doesn't live there? No of course not. You'd think oh I've ordered 7 things this week online, I wonder if this is the new TV remote I ordered. And you'd open it

That's not the same thing as a PO box. USPS will make sure they put it in the right place at their location, hold it at the front, or use a private place.
I'm not understanding. How is impossible for usps to make a mistake at their own mailbox, than the mailbox 3 miles away. Most packages fit in the smallest PO box, Why would they hold it upfront?

It's overall less likely. They label their mailboxes better than the little mail stations at the community stuff

Packages bigger than a small priority box won't fit in those mailboxes typically.

Or just go to a private mail store that may just hold packages at their front desk

your allowed to open your childs packages as its your residence. its ignorant because its laziness. its simple to look at the name on the package or letter thats all.

Packages will get “misboxed” at the PO from time to time, but it truly does happen less often at the actual post office versus at a cluster box or apartment complex with 100 mail boxes where the mail man is being pressured to make it back to the PO before it’s too dark to see what you’re doing because it gets darker sooner right now and there’s the huge influx of mail and packages for the holiday season and you don’t want to get ran over by a dumb ass texting and driving and not paying attention or having to be back on time to get his outbound mail on the truck in time before the office gets penalized. There’s still room for error albeit less room when you have a PO Box where it’s slightly slower paced and your shit is going to be more secure in the long run. If it’s too big to fit in your box or a parcel locker, they’ll put it on a shelf and leave you a little pink slip telling you to come up front and pick it up. There’s also like 4 or 5 different sizes of PO Boxes. They aren’t that expensive per year.

Edit: not trying to sound like a dick here, by the way. Just speaking from experience. I’ve worked in multiple areas of the postal service for many years.

i just don't understand why, i would ever open mail that's not addressed to me. i legit check and even double check it. just a fact all brains are the same size its how much of the brain that people actually use. so that is a very inaccurate fact you stated. but if he does have one id like to see it! if the current law in place states that then yes. Sorry the reason the world we live in is such a shit show is because we don't enforce the current laws we have. @JeffroCat
And yes i understand we are on a harm reduction forum of illegal substances but i also think that the rich ass hollywood fuckers shouldnt be able to run juice and be untouchable as well. Status in life shouldnt protect you from the laws flat out the law is the law

This sound like something out of an Eroids thread.

I decided to try a PO box for the first time ever 6 months ago. Absolutely worth the small fee, no lost or misplaced packs and usually delivered by 9AM.
I've heard its even less chance of having an controlled delivery right? I mean it makes sense..

This happened to me when I lived in the USA too many times. The last one was a package i was awaiting that was valued over 900$.
I had PROOF of misdelivery FROM THE POSTAL SERVICE that the package was misdelivered to an address that was NOTHING similar to my address and I never got any type of answer or reimbursement for it.
I went through phone call after phone call after email and even hand written letters to no avail.
The post master general of the USA s number when called is even disconnected!..LOL...the USPS is a laughing stock. The local mailpersons that I encountered after this didnt even speak any English!!..how the hell could they read it??!!..and this was not a small town USA town, it was a well known city.
Bottom line- the USPS, like the rest of the government and big business there, doesnt give a fuck about the citzens. One of many reasons why I left the USA.

I rented an apartment before. We each had little mail slots for mail and then packages were delivered to your apartment door.

For the next 6 months I had not only my mail and packages but also the previous renters mail and packages.

I called usps probably 20 times along with the apartment complex manager to let them know I am still receiving their mail by mistake.

Even went outside and waited for the mail truck one day to explain the situation. He told me to write write “doesn’t live here anymore” and keep it in the mail. So I did and the fucking usps driver just let it pile up in my box and never took it back.

Long story short I stopped trying to get it fixed and just ended up keeping an empty garbage bag in my apartment with their 5-6 months of mail and packages

I was tired of looking at their mail Sitting in the corner of my apartment too so at night I went to mail slots and dumped out their 5-6 months worth of mail and packages.

After that happened then I finally stopped getting their mail.

Usps is a joke. You ever see the people they got working for them?
