Pec injury

So 2 weeks ago, I benched 285x5, my best was 275x1 years ago and never benched that again. I did another set at 225x8 and on the last rep, I had a slight injury, nothing bad, was able to finish my pec workout. Did chest this week and only benched 135x5 since i was feeling a bit of pressure and didn’t wanna push it. Today, was at a baby shower of a friend and had a gym in his garage. One of my friend benched 225x22 reps and got carried into it. So I went and bench 225 had no pressure on my pec or what so ever, so I thought I was good to go, and on the 11 rep, I heard a bad fucking sound like a snapping in my chest, I was able to rack the bar. Took of my shirt and to see if anything was popping out. I notice a slight bump on my left pec, was able to tolerate pain, no bruises for the first 5-6 hours. Went back at home tonight and then, I had a bruise on my left arm and you can notice a slight difference from left to right pec. I am going to see my doctor first thing tomorrow morning, but I am a bit stressed out if this a torn pec and if I need surgery. Anyone had a torn pec and can give any information.

PS:

Yeah, I already know doing 225 without warmup was asking for it, dumb and stupid

The fact that you heard a pop or snap sound means you likely tore something. Also a bruise down your arm is a clear sign of tear in the pectoral. It could be muscular or the tendon. I recommend seeing an orthopedic surgeon asap as opposed to a general practitioner. I'll explain why.

I tore my right pectoralis major tendon just over a year ago. A complete tear meaning it came completely off the bone. It made a sound like a rope snapping, followed by nauseating pain that lasted for about an hour. I had a big bruise on my bicep the next day. when I felt the area where the pec meets the arm, sort of the crotch between arm and torso, there is normally a taut chord in there. Mine was completely soft. I went to urgent care and the idiot doctor told me I didn't tear anything and scheduled an MRI for a month later.

I didn't believe it and luckily my friend works as n MA for an orthopedic surgeon so got me an appointment quickly. The surgeon told me I had a tear that will need surgery to repair the moment he saw my bruise. Just said it needs an MRI to determine exactly what was torn. I paid out of pocket for the MRI and scheduled my surgery for the nearest available date. The reason why I was in such a rush is because tendons retract after being torn and surgery is only an option within a certain time frame. I think 3 weeks if I remember correctly, but don't quote me on that. Either way if I went through the typical medical ringer I may have not been a candidate for surgery and had to accept my fate. Basically I'm saying you need to be pushy if you think it's a tendon tear because if too much time passes surgery won't be an option. At least not the most effective surgery.

Yes, I am getting in MRI in a 10 window that is what my doctor told me, and said it will more than likely require surgery and has to be done in 14 days or so to repair it correctly. If i don’t get any call this week for an MRI, I am going straight away to get an MRI done. Yeah the sound was like a rope that snap in half. My kid was there and told me, Dad when you hurt yourself it made a sound crick crack. Followed by what you said, felt nauseous, was sweating like a pig. It only lasted for 15 minutes. This is what it looks like as yesterday.

Based on the bruising pattern I would say yeah you need surgery and asap. You don't want to miss the window. The longer you let it go past 14 days, the less chance you will have ANY option to fix the issue.

I didn't have the same injury as yours but I did tear a tendon and had a post injury experience similar to yours. Pop, pop pop, intense pain for a few min, started sweating like crazy, thought I would throw up, thought I would pass out.

Eventually that went away and it was just a dull pain and my muscle was useless. My entire armed was purple black for a few days. I had surgery I believe 7 days after the incident.

Yes, that is what I thought too. Sucks man, but I should of listen and not get carried into it, was reckless and stupid. You just learn things the hard way in life

Tore my pec 1/3, 10 more weeks to able to return to sport. GET the surgery, tell every doctor is URGENT, they will get you in quick, they know its urgent. I got mine done 3 weeks post injury and was ok. Got denied from a place from being to honest about history and opiate use.

I tore pec major and they used surtures.

It was like a zipper sound, doing barbell. So be adimit of the need to get it fixed.

Got an update. Doc told me I am a candidate for the operation and will probably be done by next week. Training legs 2-3 times a week and upper right body (low weights) and cardio. The intensity is there during training, not as much but still.

I was doing the same, not much you can do besides get a surgeon and wait and i did legs after surgery as well light. Trust the process and you will finally be ok.

Get a quality PT after too.

Man, healthcare system is so slow. I am in canada, and don’t have to pay for surgery but the time they take to see between the doc apointment to the MRI and the surgeon is quite unbelievable. Saw the doc on april 30. MRI was done on may 10, and only see the surgeon on may 31.
