Request assistance interpreting ODD hormone panel results

I realize that a saliva test may not be the optimum method, but living in Canada requires that I wait a few months for a possible endo visit or I pay $1000-$1500 to be tested by an anti-aging clinic. I would appreciate help interpreting the following results done by ZRTLabs:

Name : level (range pg/ml)

Estradiol : 0.6 (0.5-1.5) - NORMAL
Progesterone: <15 (25-100) - VERY LOW, out of range
Testosterone: 55 **** EDIT: see below
DHEAS: 16.5 (3-10 ng/ml) - VERY HIGH
Cortisol morning: 6.3 (3-8) - NORMAL

I've *NEVER* taken any sort of prohormone or anabolic steroid or any pre-cursor or anything meant to increase muscle mass. Thank you for any insight. I've edited this post to reflect the revised results.

REVISION.....

After talking with the lab on the phone, they had a physician go over the results again and they amended the scales. I also found out that the T tested with Saliva is in fact "Free Testosterone" that is bioavailable. Now they say my level is:

Testosterone: 55 (50-200) - LOW

So it would be normal/high cortisol, normal/low E, low T, high DHEAS, and non-existant progesterone.

I see from the image you attached you are 30. Based solely on the results of this test, assuming it is accurate and that you are having symptoms associated with hypogonadism, it would seem that you are a candidate for TRT.

Thank you for the opinion. I originally posted the results here because they were *odd* at first... after the lab corrected the range, they make perfect sense... and there doesn't seem to be much question that I should find some help. I do have some symptoms and have had them for 15 years of my adult life... low natural muscle mass, difficulty gaining muscle and losing core fat, low libido, apathy, etc.

I've been following a very clean (high fat, high EFA, red meat) diet and working out for months.. I'm assuming I've raised the levels myself-- I was likely lower a year ago and would not have hit the bottom tail of the range.

I'm currently browsing the web looking for options in the area... wondering if anyone knows of Barry Rich of the XYClinic/no-scalpel-vasectomy in Vancouver? He seems to be on the same page as Swale when it comes to treatment and the Clinic is more than I was expecting from the area. I am Canadian, and since my levels are low but still normal (for a grandfather), I'm pretty sure the Gov't health care would do nothing for me.

If I were you I would get tested and find out why you are low. You can read the tests that SWALE does or read this link from the AACE Guildines.

I had saliva Testosterone levels checked twice last year before I went the HRT route. First one was 73 on the same scale (50-200). Second one a few months later was 59 (50-200). I felt like garbage most of the time and had no energy for anything (or sex drive). I felt like that for a number of years but it had intensified greatly in the previous 12-18 months before those tests. I started thinking I might have low test several yrs earlier but I procrastinated b/c I was only 29-30 and thought that can't be it. But I can't tell you how many days (months) I was in a daze, exhausted and felt like I was looking through someone elses eyes in someone elses body. I was out of it most of the time.

Since I've been on HRT, I still feel very tired and worn out sometimes (usually just a few days before my next shot), but I never feel as bad as I did pre-HRT. The exhaustion and brain-fog never get that bad.

You sound like you may be a good candidate for HRT but I don't know how you have to go about it in Canada. Good luck though - you should definitely pursue whatever options you have.

Thank you for the link to the document (I read every word) and your further opinions.

I contacted what seems to be a good Men's Health clinic in the area with a Doctor who follows nearly the same protocol as Swale. The cost is $400 for the consultation, not including lab work, and $100 for followups. Reasonable, right? The only other option I've found is an anti-aging clinc who does patches and gels and the cost is the same for the consultation.

I know how you feel I talk to men eveyday with the same problems in the UK and Canada. There is no answer I can give you but if money is a problem witch most of us have I would go to the Dr. with the test and take the AACE Guildlines with you and plead your case. I ended up being treated for major depression for 5 yrs. before the found out it was Low T. And this was 21 yrs. ago nothing much has changed.
