So my soon to be wife is a CrossFit coach at her friends gym. I’ve just left my wrenching job and it happens that her friend needs a personal trainer. Not one that works there but one that members could use. I would basically have a free gym to train people at so I’m wondering what the best cert would be. I’ve seen a ton online and am wondering if any CPT’s could chime in.

I have ACE, but its a little harder then just taking a test. Going to have to study for a good 2-3 months.

Also unless you are doing it privately its shit pay.

i do relly enjoy it, also working my way to doing physical therapy

I'm not a CPT but, I believe NASM is the standard. Everyone I know that has been in a similar situation as you was certified through NASM.
That’s one of the certs I’ve seen. I’m curious which accreditation is better though. NASM is NCCA. I’m also looking at ISSA which isn’t ncca but is recognized by another org.

Would you say ace is better than nasm or issa? You work at a commercial gym ? What’s shit pay to you? May not be to others.
NASM,ACE,ACSM are good for every gym.

i have done both commercial and private, private i made all that i charged. 60$ for 45 min.

commerical came out to 16 $ an hour. But with gaps and cancellations. Luckily i just worked out when that happened.

some gyms you have to go around and grab clients, some gyms give you clients.

Sometimes i would be scheduled for 8 hours and only work 4. And you only get paid for 4 but have to be there for 8.

hence why doing it privately is where its at. I know a gym i pay 10$ an hour and i keep the rest, just to use the facility. That is a good thing also.

also when you do what you like, work is so much better.

NASM and ACE are most respected in US but the tests are a pain in the dick and it’s basically just memorizing shit you aren’t going to use. Though I only have NASM and PTA Global, PTA global was the best IMO. It’s cheaper and quicker plus you don’t learn too much that you won’t use

Any knowledge on NFPT? They have in person 2 day workshops and they are accredited through NCCA. It seems like certs all come down to accreditation. In the long run isn’t a pt cert accredited through NCCA just as good as any other? Not knowledge wise so to say. I’m just saying on paper for private clients. Also any legit cnc cert advice I’ll take.

I took workshop through NCCA and learned more in that week than 4 months of a cert course so I’d say yes that would probably be the best route to go. Like you said, it basically comes down to proving to your clients that you have the skills they’re seeking.
If you have the means to run group training classes, that’s where the monies at. It’s cheaper for the clients and it’s more fun for you, plus you get a bigger payout per session. The reason I shy away from training now is the people that need training are typically people who don’t want to workout so one on one training usually turns into you convincing clients to show up even though they don’t want to. Group training is almost exclusively women so be prepared for that. It’s fun if you aren’t a douche and trying to fuck all of them.

Best way to fuck them is not trying to fuck them. Women are naturally attracted by challenges.

Please don’t fuck your clients.
That’s like being cheap gigolo. If you’re into that be expensive one ;)
I’m a trainer, certified through ACE. NASM holds little more credibility but that’s only because of their marketing that convinced everyone they are the gold standard. What you learn isn’t different. In my experience clients don’t care about certification, they care about their results.
Many commercial gyms seek specific certifications like NASM or ACE. But if you’re going to be independent, which I highly recommend, I’d look into aaai/isma if I was you.
Certification is mostly means of getting insurance, no one will make you a good trainer if you don’t have passion to keep learning.

Nah I never would. Ain’t no bitch got shit on my slut. They might as well not exist.

Get the quickest/cheapest one possible. Type of cert honestly doesn't mean a damn thing, the ppl you'll be training won't even be ready to learn a fraction of what you know. You are basically their accountability to show their asses up, someone to count their reps, tell them good job, bullshit like that.

I let mine go, no cert, I'm my own damn cert and I've made more money having no certification than I ever did with bullshit ISSA

That’s why I recommended pta global because it’s fast and easy

I found the test that you get from the seminar. The two day thing. The self study course is just 349.
I’m currently looking at machines. I’ve found titan. They have stuff like in the old school gyms I went to in Tucson. Does anyone know of other brands that have affordable machines?

There's a YouTube channel garage gym reviews or something like that. He reviews companies and there equipment. Definitely a good watch if you are looking at equipment.
