Sleep

Has anyone had any experience with natural sleep aids? Like Valerian root or anything like that? I found that ZMA helped some, but was looking for other alternatives. I found what appears to have every natural herb to help sleep at http://www.somnatrol.com/. I came up with it after doing a search on webmd.com about valerian root. They claim it's the number one selling natural sleeping aid out there. I have been training extremely hard and I find it hard to fall asleap lately. It's not overtraining, I think it's a combined exitement about having two training partners, because I never had any. I just don't want to mess with my recovery becuase I am visualizing my next workout till 1:00am every night. Any thoughts would be helpfull. Thanks.

I've never had much success with valarian root, but I do have some things that can help.

The first thing is not a supplement, but it's a technique that I have had great success.

You have to reduce light towards bed time, and before bed, take 3mg of melatonin. When you sleep, your bedroom must be COMPLETELY dark. Cover your windows with towels, and absolutely NO nightlights.

You can get a light timer and have it go off when you want to get up. When you get up, you must have very bright light for at least an hour. This will help correct circadian rhythms so you can sleep. The melatonin supplement just speeds this process.

Some other common sense things would be no caffeine in the evening, no TV before bed, etc. It might also help to take a warm shower before bed, as the temperature change helps facilitate sleep.

Thanks for the input. That product that I posted does contain melatonin, as well as Valerian root and I think GABA (Whatever that is.) Thanks again.
