Smith machine rows

So I am a big fan of barbell rows, Ill credit them for giving me a wide back. And I can push some heavy weight on them too anywhere from 225 to 315.

But now the past two weeks decided to take my talents to the smith. I can push 315 to 405 and get a greater squeeze at the top also have more control of the weight. And nonetheless work on the angle of my body to spread more the target areas of my back from top to mid.

My question is does anyone else do rows on the smith and have they noticed considerable development? Maybe its the change that has me feeling them like crazy on my back. But wondering if anyone has done these long term with great development accredited to them?

Do not discount the SMITH, numerous reasons to include this!!!!
I use them for various movements.

Nice job!!

I do smith rows because it restricts the movement to straight up and down so i cant cheat by tilting my torso up or pulling with my lower back

Hmm- I workout at home but gonna have to go to my local collage gym and do some rows on the Smith . Should be able to row some big weight on it.......

For myself, I'm not a fan of the smith machines at all. I think that more muscle fibers are used when doing total free weight movements. But....that's just my opinion. I will use them every now and then for squats.

I can't picture you working out indoors ogh!

Your right Brutus - Im a nature boy at heart .

When I lived in Alaska years ago I use to canoe out to a small isolated island in the summer with my pug dog Pokey , and a case of beer and get drunk and run around the island at night naked and screaming & cussing while Pokey would would run & bark .It was a summer ritual I did every year . I probably belong in another era when life was simpler yet more brutal.....[}:)]

That gives me faith In the human race brother....

I don't like them because the movement goes where the machine wants it to go, not your lats. It's a great machine for your ego, but I will stick with free weight rows and t bars

I agree it limits natural range of motion with just about everything... I only use smith machines for heavy close grip bench.

That's the debate I have in my head about the range of motion. There is no doubt in my head smith works for squats.

The rows seem to good to be true. But the squeeze the squeeze aw yes you can feel it unlike free weight

Half the guys in the gym have no idea how to train period, let alone for a specific discipline such as BB, Strength or PL. Not to mention, not sure how to recruit the specific muscle(s) being trained. Simply going thru the motions. Just like their diets, they just don't know, I don't blame them. Instruct when I can.

While using free weight barbell rows lower back suffers a lot of stress, but when on a smith machine we don't have such a problem. It is a great exercise especially for those who has back problems.
