Was kicking it at the ER Sunday after collapsing at work. Had been there several hours when an older guy is brought to the next room over.
He's a vet on TRT through the VA and apparently there because he can't give himself the shot. Normally a nurse does it for him, but she's on vacay.
Apparently they can't do it for him at the VA either after a change in policy. So he's berating the ER doctors, who can't give him the shot either.
He's going off about having to jab himself with a harpoon and the fact that he thinks its retarded that they can't give him the shot.
So, I popped around the corner after to Doc left to call the VA. Like...
Me: Bro, are you physically incapable of giving yourself the shot?
Like are your hands jacked up?
Vet: My hands are fine.
Me: So do you just not know how?
Vet: My nurse does it.
Me: You have your stuff with you, right?
Guy gives me his stuff. One little amp of Test and a fucking 19G 1.5" pin. Says that's what he takes the shot with, no swapping the needle.
Me: Okay, tell the VA you want a box of 25G needles. This 19G shit is nuts.
Come to find out he doesn't know that he can pin anywhere other than his glute. Told him to drop his Jean's and showed him where to inject his quads.
Doc got back a few minutes later and he was on his way. Doc...didn't look stoked about it when he "Thanked" me for helping the guy, but did seem glad to get rid of him. Lol.
But what the fuck?
Why did the VA or his GP not show this guy how to take care of that? Why did they have him thinking he needed to use fucking 19G pins?
