Sodium Doping

I recently started training to run the boston marathon, which my training will take a break while I deploy to iraq, but I was wondering about "doping" with a sodium salt. Since performance drops drastically when blood volume drops, would it be possible to take mega doses of table salt, sodium bicarbonate, or sodium phosphate to cause your body to "hold" more water and allow you to start with a higher reservoir of water. Not to mention possibly changing the PH of my blood. Any ideas, facts appreciated.
