Just saw this introduced on the Senate floor by Sen. Portman (OH). Here's the brief description from Congress.gov:

Official Titles as Introduced:
A bill to amend the Tariff Act of 1930 to ensure that merchandise arriving through the mail shall be subject to review by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and to require the provision of advance electronic information on shipments of mail to U.S. Customs and Border Protection and for other purposes.

Sounds to me like Big Pharma is using the emotional energy from the Fentanyl overdoses to push legislation that will allow the USPS to warrantlessly search and seize, most likely using the unrestricted communications intelligence that the NSA omnipotently collects and disseminates to law enforcement agencies.

Am I reading more into this than I should be? Just wondering if anyone else had seen this and what their thoughts are in general. First thread so hope I did it right.

There's not much in the description posted. Something definitely needs to be done about fentanyl and it's more deadly cousins. The action is going to have to take place in China though.

What is there to see that this can be extended to steroids, not just rec drug raws. I do agree that shipments of dangerous substances like fentanyl need to be monitored and seized at point of entry but steroids can well be caught up in this as a side effect.

Maybe i'm just hungry, a little pissy and less tolerant at the moment, but why does the asshole government need to interfere with natural selection?

The argument about "if it were your son, daughter, brother, sister, you'd say otherwise" is what you make of it.
Call me selfish, but what someone does, regardless of relation, with their life is their choice, thank you free will.

i cannot make anyone do anything they don't want to do with their bodies, as they cannot do the same with me.

We all make choices in this life, i've made bad choices with drugs and i knew all the while it was up to me and only me to decide when enough was too much, not the government, not my family, just me.

i could go on all fucking night, but i'll leave it at this, go eat and probably flip flop on my position later. :D

Real liberty. Is one not being controlled and being told what to do think about past history opium cocaine herion amoug other thing we're legal at one time. There was no mass histeria. Two things will happen when you legalize things the people that are already doing will keep doing it. And it opens a door to company to sell it and set a standard. That kills the black market Mafia theft as well as children sex slave industry.
The war on drugs is a money machine that gives them more funding. Yet the government let the Mexican Mafia sell cocaine in the city and the bushes turned there head and profited from it.
I for one hate drugs but it's more dangerous being illegal.

I agree with you in many respects. Where I have to differ is that some of these synthetic opiates such as carfentanil were originally developed as chemical weapons and have been used as such. One kilo of carfentanil is enough to kill the entire population of Canada. Imagine if the wrong person got ahold of a chemical like that and we're to introduce it to the water supply of a major city? Or figure out how to make it into an aerosol like the Russians used against the Chechnyan terrorists. Yep the Russians used this same chemical to incapacitate and kill people already. And anyone can order it from China. Customs in Canada and the US have caught kilos of this poison already. Scary stuff.

This i can understand and agree with.

Stopping the flow of something a terrorist could kill mass people with is what they should be doing.

My rant was more to do with personal use on an individual basis.

i'm sure there's junkies out there that would love to get their hands on enough of the analog you mentioned to blow their minds and as far as i'm concerned, more power to them. Their bodies/lives, their choices.

this sounds to me like anything international can be checked which they pretty much do... the problem is advance electronic communication which means on the manifest or computer record of who sent what n where its going. theyll have ids of senders which could be a huge hurdle for ugls....my biggest fear is starting self administered trt and not being able to purchase test two years later...cuz my deductable goes up thousands every year making insurance and endos not an option...
