Struggling with Bench

Despite gaining weight for the past 3.5 months, my bench hasn't progressed like I've wanted.

I started out around 185 for 5 and then ended up around 225 for 5 or 6 depending on the day. That was from around January until today

I ran 500 Test and 375 Deca for 12 weeks, and ate my ass off until I couldn't gain anymore. Squat and Deadlift jumped almost 100lbs, but no such luck on my bench.

Currently do one bench day and another paused bench day every week

A 40 lb jump on bench in 3 months isn't bad. And bench is never going to jump at the same levels as squat and deadlift... Those are big muscle groups compared to the pecs/delts/tris...

I think you did fine. Were you running any particular program for strength? 5x5 etc?

Actually I posted it up in my introductory thread a few minutes ago!

If I’m not mistaken you’re pretty new to training.

Don’t get ahead of yourself. 40lbs that quick isn’t bad at all. Just keep hammering away. If your goal is strength get a well known plan In place and just work.

For reference, my bench is probably around 405 where my squat and DL are around 6. You look on par for a similar ratio. Very few guys are built to be bench gods.

That ratio wouldn't bother me whatsoever. I'm not looking to set world records, I just want to look and feel strong relatively speaking. And a 600lb deadlift is definitely strong in my mind

Yeah I've been training for around a year and 4 months now. Diet is pretty decent, could definitely be better. I'll be cutting down slowly pretty soon.

You’re well on your way man. Keep plugging.

You’re brand new. Barely through the newb gains. You lost a bit of foundation hoping on gear so early, but that’ll come.

Yeah, after finding out my natty test was shit and ending up on TRT, it was kind of hard to resist moving to the dark side lol

Throw in another 1 or 2 bench days. People underestimate how much frequency can be maintained with the bench compared to squat/deadlift. Moreso when you are so new and the CNS isn't being insanely overloaded. I would also take out any pause benching for now. As long as you aren't having any form breakdown when you get into heavier weights you will be better off training touch and go (no bro/ego touch and go, keep it nice and smooth). Do a heavy day, two volume/medium weight days and on your fourth day just get some blood into the muscles. Throw on like 50-60% of your max for a few sets of 8-12 and then finish off with some closegrip/dumbell chest exercises.

Ditch the paused bench and do heavy incline, IMO.

That or buy a slingshot. They look gimmicky as hell, but they let you overload your bench by quite a bit and I managed to break my 335 sticking point with one.

You probably need to start using Venom’s gear.
