tai chi

Have you seen the people that do it,all shapes and sizes,I dont think it would do f all,but I'm sure there's folks that will try to convince you otherwise.
Surely it is mainly for stress relief........

Ive got pretty bad joints these days and was looking for an isometric or non repetitive way of keeping reasonable muscle tone, i am not concerned with mass at all.

By repetitive i mean things like swimming and cycling cause me repetitive irritation in my joints

I would say no. Maybe try wrestling. With the resistance you receive from a struggling opponent, you can keep some decent musculature even without lifting.

My sholder joints were starting to give me alot of discomforrt. Now after finishing a three mouth cycle of EQ they feel normal again.
I guess it depends on the cause of the problem,I'm sure EQ won't do anything for osteo/rheumtoid arthritis.

well itd be great if a course of something would clear up my joints, but Id never use AAS again, so Eq etc is out the picture. Im 30 and have a good hairline, good libido now and it took 12 months for my test to rise from about 80ng despite extended PCT - the lowest normal being about 300. so ill not go there again!

Hhmm
fish oils, other supps? What about the weights, are you hanging up your dumbells?
Beer is a very popular supplement!
Surely theres some exercises you can do,what about pulling movements that don't compress the joints;rows,dumbell/barbell shrugs, bent over dumbell kickbacks,pull-overs aren't to bad on the joints?
What about a martial art,kick boxing,karate,
tai chi,cup of tea is for old ladies
How say yee?

i take glucosamine and chondroitin, and eat alot of good fats including oily fish. it is helping i think.

as for gently weights - the problem is im a stable in shape size not doing any of that now, and i get obsessed, angry and then depressed when i see what weights do to me and then that i cant do it anymore. ie i grow and lean down v quick from muscle memory and bang a tricep is pulled doing 12 rep pushdowns at about 80% effort after 2 months breaking in training.

Subsequent to that is the mindfuck of shrinking, then add the fact my free time is precious to not do and obsess about this

Also I spend about $6000 a year on clothes ( yes i have substituted one vanity for another), and they are all for my stable 170lb lean athletic build. Im not about to replace all that.

Weights are history for me, if i had my time again id have done swimming and running more through school and college and got the athletic build i have now with no injuries and great cardio health.

Maybe with the net i would have moved into weights as the knowledge on training is immense, and id be injury free from that ( and probably three times the narcissist i am now! )

I should go back to my physio and ask for relevant activities i think

What caused the majority of the problems i have now

1. training dorian yates style from a young age with excess forced reps, mental effort, no one knowing anything about proper training periodisations etc. and obsession fuelling this.

2. stopping training and drinking heavily for a few years - after this period everything started to snap

3. Using steroids in quite high doses to go back to train, jumping up in volume and weights very quickly and feeling great from deca etc on my joints, not realising the damage being done.

4. subsequent 12 month hypoganadism after all this which when i returned to training had everything pulling, aching, or full of tendonitus.

God im a depressing bastard!

Thanks for the insight,I'll keep your experiance in mind,so I dont overdo my joints,as you say the heavy go till broke has the adverse effects of the joints the trainer may pay for later on.You can only do it for so long.
I will try the hgh later on when I get the stiff tendons to the point of injury.I am already going this way and have to worm up alot.
Also when I dont push weights I drop down in size and strength fast,so I really dont wont to stop untill I have to,so I must really start training smart.
Thanks again.

I used to do Tai Chi and can tell you it will do nothing for your muscles. It will relax the heck out of you though, and it may be good for youir joints depending on what the problem is. I love tai chi though

I don't have much experience with Tai Chi, but would recommend some of the new cable based weight lifting machines, such as Ground Zero or "Free Motion" technology. After I hurt my back I had to find some alternatives to dumbbells and started using these. They are fantastic--the safety and quick set up of machines and the balancing of free weights. I would think that moderate reps of 12-15 would be soothing for the joints. If you move quickly through your routine you'd get a cardio workout too.

I know a lot of guys frustrated by what they lift now compared to then. One alternative is to simply not do those old lifts. I still think that resistance training is superior to all forms of exercise and not just by a little--done correctly it is leaps and bounds ahead of anything else. What I've learned through my own injuries and joint aches, is that the weight doesn't have to be heavy.

If you;re running into tendonitis problems (I'm there with you Ro') it may be that your adrenal glands are fried. Check out some of the threads about this in the HRT forum.

FMI, what cycle were you running that cause you to shut down this long? What was your PCT?

$6,000 per year on clothes? WTF ARE YOU SPENDING IT ON? Evening gowns by Vera Wang?
