Test rebound ?

I'm curious to see if this has happened to any of you bros, and if so what does it mean, and what would be the best treatment protocol. O.K. I'm 34 yrs. and have had low T ( under 250 through the course of testing over the past 3 yrs.) I have recently found a qualified Dr. with experience in treating low T. The previous years, I was treated by my regular doc, with Androgel 5g. This was great for the first couple days, and then as a month or 2 went by I felt poorly again, and stopped the androgel. (I've done this twice, I get blood tests on the 5th or 6th week..little or no improvement in T and free T)
Here's the strange part. When I have my blood tested one or two weeks after stopping the androgel, my T and free T both go up quite nicely to mid range or upper normal. The problem is that after about a month goes by I'm back where I started, feeling like crap in the 250's. What's going on with me?

Obviously my prior docs didn't know how to treat me, but my new doc has good deal of experience with horomone therapy (his specialty), and has told me that sometimes men get a rebound effect after stopping T therapy, that can produce a surge that will slowly go back to low again, like what has happened to me. We are waiting for more blood tests to come back, 3rd set in a month to see where I'm at. He wants to start Clomid therapy, or stimulation therapy before putting me on Test.
Any thoughts guys? Sorry for the long post.

It tells me there is something going on besides being primary or secondary. Your T levels coming back like that then going back down could be from stress or liver problems. I am not a Dr. but I do remember talking to a guy that had this problem I am not sure but I think it was a low infection he had.
It is good you are seeing a good Dr. and not back on TRT. but if you are older it could be high E2 and when you stop it goes down and your T levels go up only to come back down when E2 goes back up.

I don't have an answer for you, just a comment and a question. The problem you had with Androgel seems to be a recurring theme among TRT patients: it works for a while, then it stops. The same doesn't seem to occur as much with injections, from the anecdotal evidence I've read on the boards. Just another reason why I asked for injections vs. gel. Dr. Crisler's protocol of test cypionate once per week and low-dosage hcg once per week has worked wonders for me and many others. You might want to ask your doctor to give that a try, once he rules out any other issues he might be concerned with.

Do you have a history of AAS or prohormone use? Any idea why your T might be low?

My E2 was good, as were my liver values. The only odd test out of range was my IGF-1?? It was really high. My doctor asked me if I was injecting HGH.
Edit: My DHEA was low, and IGF-1 was high. I'll have to post up some labs next week.

No history of AAS or prohoromone use. My V.A. doc ran a T and free T test a couple years ago when I was complaining of fatigue. I will ask to use Swales protocol if my doc decides to treat me with Test.
