Another House-passed measure, sponsored by Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., D-6th Dist., would give the Food and Drug Administration new authority and additional funding to prevent synthetic opioids such as heroin and fentanyl from reaching the U.S. through the mail from overseas sources, including through the international bulk mail center in Secaucus.

The measure authorizes $110 million over five years for FDA to hire more inspectors
