Training and Nutrition with Diabetes?

Where can I find information on training and nutrition for someone with diabetes?
I have a girlfriend who has recently been diagnosed. She was wondering why she was gaining weight in such a short amount of time when she finally went to the doctor. Tests are still being run but they told her that diet and exercise are her best bets.
Now the question is, Where can you find proper info on training and diet for a person with diabetes? Has anyone here dealt with this before?
Thanks, Sphinx.

I would just go check to see if there is a book about it at Barnes and Noble...or the doctor could probably set her up to see a dietitian...she just wants to avoid simple/refined carbs... often type II diabetics can control their diabetes with diet and exercise

Yeah, any book store will have information about it. I was going to ask you to if it was Type 1 or 2 diabetes. Type 2 used to be called adult-onset until kids started getting it (kids are obese these days that's why). As the previous gentleman stated, Type 2 isn't insulin dependent, so diet and exercise is about all the hleps that. But that works though. Be strict on her and make her stick to it! Low GI foods are her best bet (for general purposes).

peace.

Thanks,,,she is type 2,,,has seen a dietician and is eating better,,,the exercise is what she still confused on. She wants to start weight training, gain some muscle mass, look better, ect. She just doesnt know how to apply her diet best to at training schedule and what the schedule should be...
Thanks for the info!
