Trap pain...

Years ago I pulled my trap (on my right side) somehow. It gives me trouble intermittently. It will "heal up", and I won't feel any pain for a while, maybe months. Then it starts up again. It feels like... part of the muscle is trying to pull away from my body. Like if your traps were made up of little "fingers" of muscle. One of the "fingers" is trying to pull away fromt the rest.

Anybody else had a problem like this?

Cyniq, never had this problem,,,but how is your workout schedule? do you do direct trap work?

I think I pulled it a long time ago and it just comes back from time to time. I used to do alot of heavy trap work, shrugs and the like. But I don't train them with anything other than deadlifts now. Strangely enough, it doesn't hurt when I shrug or DL. It usually hurts when I'm High Pulling, or Curling heavy. And alot when I'm driving. I've been dealing with it for years now. I'm sure we all have a nagging pain or two we could bitch about if we wanted to. I just thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas.

2 options that I can think of.

1. It's a muscle spasm. I pulled my illipses (sp), the muscle that goes from your groin and wraps around to your back, while playing baseball. Since that time I would have problems off and on, similar to what you discuss. I actually had to get a massage finally to "unlock" it. It had spasmed so hard that it was always contracted. Look into ART or some other release technique.

2. It could be rotator cuff involved. I know you say traps, but there is a connection between the trap and cuff. Especially since you say you feel it most on high pulls.

This is just a guess. I do feel it may be more of the former one than the latter.

Thanks for the reply Girth. You may be right. I think it does behave as if the muscle is spasming. When I'm driving it knots up. But it's not the entire muscle just a relatively small area. I guess I may have to go to a sports Doc.

I hate Dr's. No offense to Swale :D
