Guys I recently started doing the cardio thing, never did it before. Anyway things seem to be going okay, I dont know that I am seeing any benefit from it yet but whatever. My problem is that after a few minutes I start getting pain in my lower back. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

atlmo!

Could be the jarring effect from the pounding on the threadmill, or maybe the angle to much for the workout! And maybe a whole lot of caution that you don't travel back off the belt, makes people look like rookies on the apparatus. Chis

Are you currently on?

if you're holding onto the handles as you walk this will put torque on your lower back. are you holding on while you walk. also, the incline, if you're using one, will put strain on your back. if you're using a good unit, the jarring effect should be minimal as the platform that the belt runs over is designed to absorb the shock. my wife has a bad lower back and has no problem using our treadmill for 25-30 minute workouts even on an incline.

Switch to something low or non-impact and your problem will go away. Running and walking are joint killers.

i agree as usual @ bob here. if you're "on" d-bol, could be the reason, or maybe excess water retention, etc.. but I'd bet more likely than not it's the same complaint most have w/ running - it's high-resistence cardio. i tried out the elipticals and switched to 1/2 eliptical 1/2 treadmill. i feel that w/ the elipticals you get all the cardio work less the back pain.

The problem could be that you just are not accustomed to the movement of your body on the treadmill and you are cramping up. My body will take some time getting used to new constant movements. I usually give up cardio during the winter then when spring hits and I start cutting I'll get back into it. I get lower back cramps the first few times when I run stairs, but they go away after a few workouts. My hips ache a bit also. Same deal when I ride my bike - I ride a mountain bike and my shoulders / triceps and back cramp up at first, but after a few rides I'm good to go. I think it has to do with being in the same position for extended periods of time and the initial shock of something new along with some extra size from winter bulking. Could also be your form on the treadmill, as others have suggested, does this occur if you were running on the road? Maybe your just tense - Are you doing any stretching prior to cardio?

If it hurts real bad, rather than just being uncomfortable, you should switch to something else.

WEll I will try to answer everything at once. I am on now Enthanate and eq. NO dbol. I have only been at it for about a week or two, so it could be the newness. I havent really tried running on the road, because I always used to get shin pain. It is a real good treadmill but the jarring may have something to do with it, I notice that if I allow my weight to come down hard my shins hurt. So I do almost a shuffle at times. Well maybe not a shuffle but I dont lift my legs to high.

No I dont hold onto the rails while walking and yes it hurts some but not enought where I have to stop. It may be a cramp now that I consider the type of pain.
