Upright rows?

Personally when I do upright rows I stop around my lower chest/nipples. I find it saves a lot of stress on the shoulders and I get just as much outta the movement as going up to my neck/chin. My upper traps may not get hit as good but I still think it does the job.

I lift a little higher than nipples with a bar. Let's you horse up more weight, but my wrists don't let me go much higher than that without pissing and moaning. That's more for delts though, before lateral raises.

Have you tried using dumbbells? I like to do them with a slightly more neutral grip. Not all the way, but just that little bit of angle, as opposed to being stuck fully pronated on bar. Easier on my wrists and shoulders. Can go a lot higher, gets the traps burning more as well.

Find your groove with them and no worries. Don't force a movement because "that's how they should be". You can find a workaround for most moves that will give you good activation, just have to listen to your body and play with things.

I was wondering what everyone's take is on this video. I stopped doing upright row after seeing it because I had bad shoulder pain. I still have shoulder pain and was wondering if I should go back to uprights?

Fuck that guy in the video..

Try doing them with cables. I think barbell is of course superior but not if it's hurting you.

I've got a damaged left wrist, so I use an EZ bar with my hands on the down slope of the bar. Allows me to lift heavier and without the discomfort in the wrist.

Wide or shoulder width? I have heard goods and bads about both. Ben Pakulski swears by wide uprights.

I started doing them with dumbbells a while ago, cant remember what had me thinking to try it, and it has treated my shoulders a lot better verses other upright row variations.

I did upright rows with db's today as well...feels like night and day vis a vis doing them with a bar. Upright rows with a bar kills my shoulders, and the db's were much better, so now I will do the uprights with db's.

Ya i think it must allow your shoulder to follow a more natural path. I feel you can pull higher without pain especially if u alternate right and left.
