Used Equipment Prices

hey all,

Determined to get a small home gym set up mostly for my stay-at-home wife, but also for situations when Im forced to need to train outside of gym hours.

Here for a couple things:
-anyone seen any absolutely necessary peices of versatile equipment for a home gym? (racks, benches, etc)
-what’s fair pricing for used stuff? (DBs,
45lb bar, various plates, etc)

Maybe too general here, but hopefully someone’s done this semi-cheaply and effectively enough to get good training in a pinch. Thanks guys.

Craigslist all day. App on your iPhone “CPlus for Craigslist”.

You can get everything you need and since it’s used it never loses value so most of the stuff you buy when you’re done with it you can turn around and sell to someone else for the same price you paid. For that reason, I don’t look at it as buying equipment, you’re basically borrowing it.

You can get a decent rack for $250-$300. Shit bar for $50. Decent bar for $150-$200. Plates for $0.50/lb and dumbbells for $0.75/lb. sometimes you can get better deals than that too.

A home gym beats the regular gym this month.

Knew CL would probably be the best bet. Thanks for including prices. My experience in CL is that 1/3rd of people just want shit gone, 1/3rd are fair, and 1/3rd think they have gold worth more than their asking price.

I've bought a lot of equipment off of Craigslist but you cant be in a hurry. Over 2-3yrs I've amassed a pretty good collection, cheap. Theres a site called Alibaba that has Chinese knockoffs of Hammerstrength,Cybex, etc, at like a 5th of the real prices. They look great but I've always balked because I have no way to gauge the quality.

My wife uses facebook marketplace quite a bit. She has found some gems on there really cheap. We picked up a couple of massage chairs for $150-200 each. Used but when they are $1000+ new, it was quite a deal and both work perfectly.

Flea markets are a good place for dumb bells. Ive gotten some for a few dollars each at the local flea market.

in UK and I use ebay for this. Easy to track multiple items and see reviews of the person you are buying from. Also regular gym equipment shops either on sale or negotiate hard as retail normally has like 40 percent margin so do your research and be prepared to walk away if they won't hit your pricepoint

Titan had some QC issues early on, but I bought a rack about 1.5 years ago along with a few add ons and everything has worked as expected. Definitely a solid product for the price.
Yes definitely. You're getting what you pay for. The quality is decent. But function wise it's great. And I have no doubt in my rack lasting a lifetime, and keeping me safe

The quality control issues pertain to some of the bolt holes not lining up perfectly. Sometimes it takes a little effort to put these things together.

Perfect combination of price and function for my dungeon.

Nice and if you are handy you can redrill (or even enlarge) some of the holes or even re-weld joints if they seem iffy. At least you got a good deal on very usable equipment though.

Getting some welding equipment here this year.

Once I buy a few pieces maybe I’ll fuck with making some of my own.
Nice...you can either buy square bar stock and make your own rack or even acquire an old/damaged one and rework it into a customized one.

Think someone on here built his own and doing his own welding/drilling buit forgot who it was.

Hey man,

I second titan fitness. I have the t3 and love it.
You can get a pretty cheap t2 rack there free shipping.
For bars I wouldn't say craiglist because they are usually the crappy cap barbells. I know fringe sport has some. Rogue has a boneyard they are discounted barbells do to blemishes or overlapped knurled. Another company I would recommend is Rep fitness.

For weights I would look for craglist. That's where you get your cheapest option price per pound.

Titan dot fitness

I've slowly, over time built a nice little home gym.

Started with a rack, adjustable bench, and barbell from titan and used plates from craigslist. Just kept adding and adding over time.

Do you have to bolt the T3 to the ground or what? Any issues with stability? How are the pulley attachments?

Anyone ever heard of Archon? I came across this cage but know nothing about them. Power Cage - Archon

If you're in the Toronto area I have a nice bench I want to get rid of. It's a Lamar adjustable bench and commercial quality .

Academy runs a pretty good sale on an olympic bar and plate set every 3 or 4 months. The bar and like 315 in plates for about 150 out the door. Be worth keeping an eye out for. I scored a good bench and rack on the letgo app for pretty cheap. The most expensive part for me was dumbells, found a few lighter pairs for cheap on CL and facebook marketplace but had to slowly add the heavier one as I could afford them.
