UV lights for sterilization?

Has anyone heard of, used or know much about these? Basically its like an an autoclave but uses uv lights to sanitize. Or a box with UV lights all over the inside. Wondering if they are worth a damn or what.

UV "claves" do not "sterilize". They may come close (stretching that definition a bit) and eliminate 99% of contamination. This is without going into other factors that could reduce effectiveness.

Bottom line is that they are not a good replacement for an autoclave, but even autoclaves need to be spore tested to verify they are sterilizing properly.

UV sterilization isn't near as effective as heat.

For Glassware and Utensils - Pressure cooker with distilled water for 45 minutes and oven at 250F for 1 hr is the method for home sterilization that gets the job done. If you use this method your glassware will come out spotless.

Stoppers soaked in 90% alcohol for 1 hour, removed with sterile tweezers, forceps or salad tongs, placed on sterile surface to dry.

Get your vails already sealed then there is no need. You just fill them as you filter. I would not trust UV.

how would you go about sterilizing a surface? and once the surface is out in the open, wouldn't you risk contamination ?
