I went into my house and did some shit and now the air conditioner doesn't work.

Ha ha ha...

Just had to show you how the post reads to a techie... not enough info to go on.

So you have sound, right? Which volume control are you using, one on an app, or the OS?

You can't control it means I assume, you are actually moving the control and nothing changes (but you have some sound).

Umm... do you HAVE an OS volume control? Almost sounds like you disabled your audio driver in hardware setup.

LOL, sorry for the lack of info. seemed like a simple question haha. Ok, i have two speakers. The speakers have a volume control. It works however I can crank my speakers up all the way and it isnt very loud. I think my cpu is stuck on a certain volume or somethign. That audio hardrive thing u said sure seems plausible'

Is this enough info?

Oh, that should be simple. Sounds like your system volume is down.

There is the physical control, and then there is the software volume control. THAT determines how strong your signal is to your amplified speakers.

If you have XP, go to start, settings, control panel, sounds and devices. Set that volume level maybe 3/4 to the top so you don't get distortion, and you should be good to go.

i have win 98 and if i go to start, cp, than there is sounds. I click on it and a whole column pops up  nothing is simple with these things

Errr... well, do this. Start, search, and type in 'volume'. hit enter.

when the volume control icon pops up, double click on it.

Whoever let you buy a computer?

(grin)

Ha ha ha... no offense, your right, they are very complicated at first.
