Hey i've been lifting for some time now but my chest has gone up only slightly in strength in two years. I've pretty much always followed the rutines I've found on the boards, and I eat decently well (making sure I take in high protiene). My stats are 6', 183 lbs, about 18% body fat. I'm doing JS's 5x5 and have stuck to it religiously and have been for 4 months. everything else has gone up in size and strength but chest... can't get more then 155 lbs up for 5 sets of 5.... any suggestions??? PLEASE HELP!!

what ive done when Ive hit a slump is change my workout. right now I do 4 sets(10 reps each, or at least I try for 10) on my bench press, but when I stop inproving I do 1 heavy set. aim for 10 reps, if you can do that its too light, so you would increase your weight. try that for a couple weeks and see how it works for you.

I forget the 5X5 .. how many X/week are you working chest

Nitro,

That's hands down the worst program in the history of weight training.

Bouncer,

Something isn't adding up. You mean to tell me that for the past 4 months you have been training bench 1-2 times per week and doing 155 for 5x5 the entire time?

Please tell us exactly what you are doing and what your poundages have been.

Matt

Well I started late august when i first read about the 5x5, I kept track of all my weights from the beginning and would go for the 5 weeks, do two weeks of maxing, then go into the 3x3 for 3 weeks or so, then go back to the 5x5. I started my chest with 135 increased my weights to 155 by going up 5 lbs ever week. I strugled when i started the 155 but eventually got it up for the 5 sets of 5 but then when i went to 160 the next week I could only do like 3 or so on my own then spots on the last, on the last set. I would stick with 160 for 3 weeks but i would start to go down in reps on last one wherei would only make 2 on my own. think its a mental block? should i do pushups at night or something?

P.S.
I follow the 5x5 the best that i from what i've read on the site... I read the page at least 5 times through.

you are manwhore dumbass.

I agree with foreman, post exaclty what you are doing, and either how little meat you are eating, or how much weed your are smoking, because something isn't adding up.

The last time i started going backwards in terms of strenght, like what is happening to you as you seem to be losing reps, i took a week off and i came back wayyy stronger. That was ofcourse during thanksgiving where i pretty much ate everything in site and sat on my ass and whatched football, so i got plenty of rest. I also had a feeling i was overtraining.

It is important to post your diet up as well, that could be, and probably is, what is holding you up.

;) I wouldn't joke about that ... well,i would but i wasn't. .. Better yet,Start Tren at 400mg/week. You'll be up to benching 200 in no time

I really don't want to,but i'm going to have to disagree with that statement... SIZE is more dependent on diet, unless of course, your diet really sucks balls

Well i half agree with that statement. If im cutting where i take in cals below maintanance level (obviously, duhh), it gets extremely hard for me to make any sort of strength gains until i at least bring up my cals to maintanance levels.

I agree you dont necessarily have to be bulking to get stronger, but you do have to be eating. If hes eating enough to maintain the figure of an elderly woman, the diet is the problem.

Well,if he's eating enough to maintain the figure of an elderly woman, his diet sucks balls :) ... His strength increases depend how intense his workouts are. If his workouts are intense,he will get stronger with maintence calories. Maybe his diet needs adjusting but i still think he needs time away from the gym. If I am not getting stronger,i know i need time off. Even when i don't eat much,i still get stronger and this is experience other than while on Tren. .. Well before i even knew what Tren was. .. I'm on so much Tren now that even on my worst day,i amaze myself

Sorry I havent responded yet It was final's week for me at school, I'm going to put a link to an excel file up with my work outs. Food wise I eat pretty well. I don't have a scheduled food plan but i eat ALOT of chicken and a lot of steak (b/c thats all my school has). For breakfast I have a bagel with cream cheese and for lunch I have a roast beef or turkey sandwich. Dinner is different everyday but like I said its usually chicken or steak. I think its my work outs personally, I dont think it do enough chest but Ill let you guys be the judge when I post I my routine in a couple of days.
