Edit, lol stoned CHEST DIPS
I really didn’t start utilizing them much until about a year ago. I’ve been doing them 2-3 times a week and slowly adding weight.

Today I attempted and hit a PR today I repped out 90lbs 3x10. Sorry not trying to brag. I know that’s nothing to a lot of you guys but it felt good! This movement flat out makes your stronger. Is this not a popular movement anymore? I never see anybody else doing them.

How deep do you go? And how do you position your shoulders and feet?

I've recently started to do fairly short ROM, not going to parallel and not locking out, while tucking shoulder blades back and down. Combined with slow tempo, feels great for the arms and no shoulder pain. I also keep body hanging fairly neutral. Yes, this is more of a tri exercise for me.

Legs curled and my forward lean is probably 35 degrees, just guessing. I go as low as possible without locking my triceps sometimes pausing for a second. So very controlled. Those PR weights that I hit is almost half my body weight. I’ve also done very high reps 50-60 with A good amount weight.

90lbs 3x10 is some good numbers. With all that weight make sure not to go to low. Injury waiting to happen.
Yeah I Prefer to do them after and I’ve warmed up and already done some chest work. Usually do flat and incline barbell chest press first. Then Weighted chest dips, then followed by flat and incline dumbbell presses.

I love them bro. Recently started incorporating them a few weeks ago. Awesome tricep and lower chest builders. One of my top 3 favorite pushing movements.

I used to do these regularly... They started to hurt my chest though, so I've had to stop. They're great though, I attribute a ton of strength gain on bench press to them.

I finish most chest workouts with them right before I hit my tri's. Im over 40 and never had an issue with them and my elbows, been doing them for decades.

I used to do them a lot. My dad and grandpa both had pretty meaty triceps and they said weighted dips and skull crushers were the only two things besides bench that they did to build their triceps. I haven't been doing them lately because I've been benching 3x a week for quite awhile and don't want to burn out my triceps too much. But when my body needs a break from powerlifting and I'm only benching once a week I do them and love them.

50-60 weighted reps?? Im assuming that's adding at least one plate. If so, that's very impressive. My PR for dips is 53 reps (tricept at 90*) @ 225lbs. No weight added. My triceps are my strongest muscle group, and i thought that was pretty good..apparently not. :(

Nah brother 50 reps was with a 25 lb plate not 90. To be honest it probably wasn’t even perfect form. I’m leaning forward a lot so definitely not much of tricep workout. My back shoulders and arms are my biggest muscle groups and I think that makes it easier for me to stabilize myself for dips.

Wrist and elbows do not allow this to be part of my chest programming any longer. Good basic movement for adding strength and size though if you can tolerate them.
It definitely puts a lot of stress on my wrists but I usually don’t feel it until the next day. I bet tape would help. I’m only about 190lbs which also makes it a good exercise for me a far as stress on my joints. I think for some guys being heavy makes it more difficult.

Are you trying to hit more chest or tri's? Vince Gironda touted them for chest if you do it with his form and his form definitely works for chest but it's even harder on your joints IMO than standard dips.

In my situation, age, wear and tear and weighting 245-260 in the off season before you add 100+ pounds of weights does tend to make the movement less appealing.

You gotta love that 150# dumbbell hanging between your legs though. Makes you feel like a total bad ass.

I've never done them with a 150lbs dumbbell. I might have to try that while I'm still young.

150lb good gawd!! Your right it does feel and look pretty bad ass. I definitely draw a lot stares from around the gym.

Any of you guys tried the old HIT method of the 1 minute dip? You take 30 seconds to go down and another 30 seconds to lift yourself back up. I think Boyer Coe was the bodybuilder who made this a known method, maybe it was Mike Mentzer but I'm pretty sure it was Coe. No fucking joke and a great finisher!!!
