What about diet soda?

i'm not too into the diet sodas but oh well, the point is that if there's a calorie free way to have something with a TASTE, then why not do it? btw, if i do go with diet soda, it's usually diet sprite or diet dr. pepper. Otherwise it's just water and the occasional crystal light.
Agreed. The sodium can be a concern in diet drinks, but I barely notice it personally.

mind documenting some evidence that carbonated sodas slow down protein uptake? i'm not necessarily doubting it, it's just that i've never heard of that.

and the only thing that may be dangerous about consuming too much aspartame (nutra sweet), is if you have a condition (like PKU) where you body isn't properly metabolizing the phenylalanine (or the aspartic acid and methanol for that matter). but all tests/studies to date (200 or so over the past 30 years), show that for normal healthy adults, intake below (hell, even above) the FDAs ADI for aspartame (50mg/kg of bodyweight per day) is perfectly fine, no elevated levels of any the components. Splenda is fine also, just not as thoroughly tested. Saccharin def. a no-no. Stevia, prelim. testing not so good, but still very new.
