Which is better to do to increase the size of muscle?

Is it better to lift a weight that I can do sets of 12-10-8 of, with the last ones being a little difficult,
---OR---
is it better to use heavier weights where I can only do 5 reps 3x per set.
Id like to increase muscler size mostly...
Please Advise...

I Dont think either is optimal for muscular growth. The 5 reps will likely be better for growth, as long as you adjust the volume to accomodate for the lower reps. Check out the Tribute to JohnSmith thread as well as the HST thread. Both are stickies at the top of the training forum.
