Why traditional Martial Arts are ineffective

Xu is offering $175,000 to any boxer or traditional martial artist that can prove their style is more effective in a real world scenario. Xu is still unbeaten...

As much shit as this guy got for doing this in China, I think its important that young people who are thinking of getting into martial arts that may not have previous experience realize that there is a lot of bullshit out there in the martial arts world. Obviously this tai-chi master is legitimate in his own martial art, but people need to realize that if you put one of these guys up against a DI wrestler for example, there is absolutely no fucking question how that will end. That's important information for a young person who is looking to gain confidence and legitimate self defense skills should know.

I think take down game is #1 personally, followed by ground. Ground and pound has won countless mixed-martial arts fights, and combined with a good take down game that's what I would put my money on.

But there is a lot of tech used in traditional martial arts that when implemented in MMA with other techniques can be fucking hard to defend against or control (see point based karate footwork / positioning being used in modern MMA for example).

I have a friend that used to do wing chung for a while ,and I would try to convince him to train bjj with me that's it's way more effective. He would argue me to death about how wing chung can beat multiple opponents blah , blah , blah. He was out one night and got beaten really bad by two guys. He started training bjj and now muey tai and sees just in his training how much more effective it is. A lot of traditional martial arts are just moves in the air. No actual live situations. They don't spar much. Their moves also never evolve. You see in mma how bjj used to dominate, but now guys are learning great takedown defense. But just because you don't see them go to the ground doesn't mean they don't know groundfighting. Also , knockouts get more fans than submissions.

He threw that grandmaster kung fu asshole out his own arena twice and sent him with some knees and elbows for good measure
They ruled the match a draw:eek:
Is there ANYTHING about that fight that even remotely ressembled a draw? Im literally laughing my ass off right now.

MMA is made for straight combat. All that kung fu karate bs is more bout movements an air acrobat's than combat lol. The moves look cool an all while movin roun tye room lika ballerina princes lmao.....till they get punched in the face by a real life dominate alpha animal mma fighter lmao :)

MMA is the practical application of all martial arts but it's still important to keep taekwondo, tai chi and all the others a live just in case theirs something that can be incorporated in mma later on;) But yeah the mysticism shit gets old.

Since we're on the subject what martial arts should I get my kid in :D He's 4 so I got to wait till next year . Or would gymnastics be a better option for now? I got a buddy at a mma/boxing gym that puts out nationally ranked kids but they have to be 7:oops:.

Bjj. It's something that takes a while to truly get good at , but even basic skills will work against the untrained. Size doesn't matter. Skill does. If a skilled little guy can beat a big guy, imagine what a skilled big guy can do. Wrestling will give a good base for whatever you go into after that. Bjj is also great for flexibility. You can always add striking later on. Wresting for takedowns , but a lot of schools teach takedowns now.

Eh i knew some one was gonna say that lol. The old size doesnt matter routine.
I remember a certain frank mir with all his wonderful accomplishments being beaten to an inch of death by a 6'3 265 lb Brock Lesnar fresh in the arena with nothing but wrestling under his belt and frank a 265 lb bjj black belt. Cmon bro. Size absolutely fucking matters. Not talking about a swollen 5'7 bodybuilder. Im talking about a big man that can move and has power. IE Brock Lesnar or anyone with size and athleticism

Brock Lesnar is a freak. He had a wrestling background. That's not really a guy that's just big. I'm talking about a trained guy against a guy that's just big. How many bodybuilders or powerlifters can last more then a few minutes in a fight ?? Most don't do any cardio or a sport. Strength and size does help for sure, but if that person doesn't have any type of fighting background that guy doesn't have a good chance.

Brock Lesnar is an extreme freak level athlete regardless of size. There were plenty of 300lb fuckers that were blasting hard in PRIDE back in the day and it really wasn't that beneficial to be that big if those fights are any indication. The bigger guy will almost always get winded / tired / lose speed quicker and with the right opponent that's basically a death sentence. In grappling I can say from experience strength and size is only going to shine when you're equally skilled as your opponent, until then its basically irrelevant.

This is assuming were talking about a hypothetical MMA fight in a cage or a ring, not a street fight or crazy wild card situation where outcome is anyone's bet.
