Will this work to lower gas prices?

This is what a lot of people are trying to do. I dont have either co. near me. Think this could make a difference or are we screwed
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1....50- $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers.

Yes, that absolutely will work!

Well ,what Thick is talking about is.......

I have absolutely no fucking idea what he is talking about......

THIIIIIIIIICK, clarify your nonsense brother.......

Anyway, that plan has been around for ages. Its total nonsense and will never work no matter how many people boycott Exxon/Mobil. People tend to forget that gas is a commodity, and as with all commodities, the sellers dont set the prices. They are price-takers, not price-makers. The difference with oil is that the majority of oil production in the world is set by OPEC. They can control with relative accuracy how many barrels are produced per day. But thats up to the OPEC nations and not the oil companies.

Plus, if you dont buy gas from Exxon, you are simply gonna drive down the street and buy from Hess or Sunoco or Conoco. How does that affect overall demand for gas? It doesnt, it simply shifts it to other sellers.

People who come up with plans like this are mental midgets and have absolutely no clue about how markets work.

We went through all this shit before Thick..... The bottom line is that no matter what, people are like fucking sheep and will just do as others do. The key is reaching the millions and it will never happen. Once you started trying to organize it, the oil companies would either sue or shoot you off of your soap box......

The only way people will get gas prices to lower is if millions and millions switch to hydrogen cars.

And we all know that is right around the corner......

I say fuck it and we all ride motorcycles....... A bunch of big fuckers on juice riding around making noise because of a gas shortage..... Can anyone say "Mad Max".........

I like that idea BR. I cant wait for a lil warmer weather. I have only rode my bike once this year. Bob, they aren't trying to change demand. That is not possible. They want to hurt exxons business forcing a price war and therefore making the co's lower profits by a couple hundred percent

I live in Texas. I ride year round baby. 72 degrees today. HA!

Why lower profits? This is what gets me about people. They want to kill the big guy who makes tons of cash, yet bitch when they dont get a raise. The companies do exactly what the individual tries to do...maximize profit. Individuals do it through negotiating salary. We sell our time and skills for a price. Companies sell their products and services for a price. Theres not much difference here. Plus, we have a mostly free market economy. It is a companies right to maximize profit.
