Gr8whitetrukker goin to the dark side!!

What Huck said plus strengthen the opposing muscle group, the abs. I tore a spn erector muscle years ago doing raised platform deadlifts. If abs are out of shape, back spasms ensue. Train the shit out of your abs too. It will really help. Taurine helps too, even for spasms (not just pumps). And it's cheap. Try Jarrow brand b/c it's pharm grade. Look on eBay or Amazon. $10 or less.

Do any you guys have good suggestions for dealing with lower back issues?

Its becoming harder each week to get thru the workouts with my back seizing up the way it is. The stronger I get each passing week in squats is making it nearly impossible to finish.
The other thing, is your core pretty strong? If you keep going heavier on squats but not keeping up with building your core it could compromise form and lead to lower back pain.

It's not a matter of seeing them, if that's what you mean by suck. You may have great core strength but high body fat and they just aren't visable yet.

I've had a fucked up back for a longass time too trucker, and like 60-70% of the time I'm alrighr, but every so often for a couple weeks I have to lower the weight on my deads a bit to let it "heal" a little. Squats don't bother it much, but when I lower the weight on my deadlifts, I'll try and pick it up somewhere else... Maybe a leg press or something. But for some reason the pulling motion eventually always gets my lower back. I just back off it when it starts to hurt, don't want want to injure it permanently and I REFUSE to have surgery!

It's like this, NOBODY likes ab exercises. I hate working abs. But I hate back spasms more than I hate ab exercises. I grew up pulling fore quarters and hind quarters of beef off delivery trucks and catching hooks on iron rails to roll them into the cooler. My back has been f'ed up since I was 12. (GD family child labor) Train your abs, and your back will thank you. I'm 43. My back feels like it's 65 sometimes. But as long as I keep my abs up, that SoB wont seize. and that makes ab work not suck exponentially! Just Get It Done!

Also that whatman filter is badass. I've all but lost my pip now. I did 2cc in right quad last night for the first time since I got those lumps. Im refreshed to find just a very small pip this morning. Looks like problem solved

pretty much what huck said .. i have the worst back in here... @ 31 they cut me from mid back to ass hole basically.. discs from L4-and L5 were gone, and i had fractured vertabrea (bone) that had slipped foward and backward on top of eachother and were mobile, so they needed to be 'set' or fused in place to stop the painful movement. . trapped nerves blah blah blah. but what ive found rather than doing alot of pulling that helps alot, is reverse hypers.. hypers supered into there. while its not the sense of accomplishment pulling heavy gives, let me tell you the decompression and strenghtending of the erector muscles ... ur back will thank you.. honestly my hyper stand is right by a abb machine, so i hit all 3 in a super , a few times a week, + any time i feel tight...

also dont neglect a foam roller on ur warm up.

Damn Tile you sir are a walking miracle!!!! Would you mind if I ask what did you do to your back that caused your injury??
Greatwhitetrucker keep up the great work you fucking beast!!!!

Ya I think your right tileguy the hypextensions sound like a good idea. Some times I do dips and let my body hang there to relieve stress on my spine. It feels damn good! I been avoiding direct lumbar work cuz im trying to avoid aggravating it but I gotta do some thing now. If I wanna reach 405 successfully ill need to strengthen my back. Also as of yesterday I stopped going ass to grass cuz it puts the spine in a strange position when all the way down. Parallel is gonna hafta be good from now on.

Also who's got some bets here? 270? 280? Lol

Most I ever weighed was 265 and that was during my 4 yrs off from the gym. I wasnt in good shape at all. 38" waist husky. Currently im 261 and MUCH bigger (muscle wise) 33" waist. So whats it gonna be?

Are you doing back squats the Olympic / high bar form or the low bar / powerlifting form?

Form breaks very easily when many lifters go ATG on the low bar / powerlifting style back squat I've noticed. High Bar Back Squat or Front squat work better with below parallel / atg depth.
