Compound Moves an AAS

Kai Greene is a great example of time under tension with very high volume and the entire muscle belly contraction for optimal growth. Then you had Ronnie Coleman who could lift as heavy as possible with less volume then most pros and achieve insane muscularity.

Two of the biggest in the sport of all time (280 Greene on stage, 285 coleman). Any technique can work, just find the one that works best for you!

The one flaw in this comparison is that Kai used to train extremely heavy only in recent years did he change his approach. He was at the point that lifting heavy was causing issues. I think he scaled it back to focus on making the exercise harder with better form which is another tool to attack the muscle when things get dangerous or the machine is maxed out.

I think compounds are a must you need to have a solid foundation and once you have a solid foundation you need to maintain it, a house can't last on a weak foundation.

If you are talking purely for muscle size I know an IFBB pro at my gym that I rarely ever see do compound movements other than some tbar rows with light weight, and HS machines. he ranges at 280-320lbs depending on competition. I've met Victor martinez before and this guy makes him look small. I however don't see him ever going to the Mr.O do to a huge GH gut however that detracts from symmetry.

Point is I guess you don't need compounds to grow but why would you not want to do them.
I will deff always be doing the big three. They are by far my favorite lifts to do hands down. I was just wondering if iy will make you thicker while on aas or if one should focus more on isolation while cycling? Im still going to do the no matter what. I cant live without my big three lol

I honestly can't answer that because I haven't a clue but at least I'm honest :p

@Blacken which pro is it?

And yeah your goals will define your regiment

@Skull the thickness purely comes from the muscle tissue, which can be stimulated in thousands of different workouts. The way you choose to stimulate hypertrophy is purely up to you.

Muscle tissue growth doesn't grow purely from targeting muscles, your body's homeostasis allows it to produce new muscle tissue all over the body from various exercises.

Our bodies out smart us all the time, I have never trained calves because they have always been big, but they've grown from 16.5-19 inches from the rest of my body growing over the years.

Thanks for your honesty bro. It might just be one of those questions that has no scienfic evidence or enough studies to back it up to answer it with a deff yes or no answer. Your advice is always welcome an thank you for commenting. I like seeing everyones diff take on questions with their answers!

So its kind of like saying you can get a thicker chest, arms, shoulders, etc. from doing squats and dead's? I have heard that from several people over the years an my old football coach used to tell me the same thing. I was always like ya right whatever these people don't know what their talking about:rolleyes: I never really put any thought into it until I really started making them a more important part of my routine! I just always thought it was all hog wash an couldn't believe it for a minute. I had it sunk into my mind that without targeting that particular muscle with the use of isolation moves you couldn't make it bigger by doing something the total opposite an without even working out that particular muscle!! Man was I wrong. I've gotten much thicker by using the big three as a more important part of my routine nowadays than just putting all of my main focus on isolating the muscles one by one:)

deads indeed..... the old question...pick the one movement you are granted stuck on a deserted island(Dead lifts!!).Will grow your ass from top to bottom..

Deadlift is by far my favorite workout I do. It feels great to pull an pick that weight up off the ground lol.

Took me forever to get back to this been busy with real life. Put up a pic of him next to Big Ramy and another pic. The odd thing is I always imagined big Ramy to be taller because that guy is around 5'8 but looks taller than Ramy so Ramy must be short. His name is Beau Biasden has monster size even if he lacks symmetry biggest person I've seen muscle wise in real life.

You sir, are huge..

That isn't me just a monster at my gym that I noticed never does compound movements with free weights other really light tbar rows. Mostly does isolation movements some compounds with HS machines for back and leg press. I've watched him at the gym for about 1 1/2 years never seen him bench, dead or squat.

Interesting to say the least! You would think as much of a mass monster this guy is that he would be cranking out the reps on the big three. Im just guessing but I believe this guy has some awesomely crazy genetics to be that size. I for one do not lol.

He tends to do mind muscle connection approach by that I mean holding the contraction and controlled. Still who's to say he didn't build off compounds and move into a different training style. He also train with Oscar Arden at times from the pics I've seen and I know he's a big believer in high reps mind connection training.
