Tricep injury

Dr says not a complete tear, and doesn't advise any further medical treatment unless it is giving me problems in three weeks. He believes it to be a small tear in the muscle and doesn't think tendon was damaged.
Oh that's good news...as long as there's no damage to the tendon and the tear is small you should be good to go in a few weeks. Better back off the heavy lifts on that arm for time being to give it a chance to heal. Small tears that don't compromise the muscle's integrity should be a good sign you can regain the strength in it within a few months.

Did you get an MRI? That could help the doc in assessing the extent of the injury.

I asked him about MRI but he felt there was no need. He seemed pretty confident I would be lifting with it in three weeks. He did my shoulders right, so I trust him so far.

Cool then, so play it safe once you are able to return to lifting and add the weight slowly back so that you don't reinjure it again

It's baby steps from here. Gonna give it a week of nothing on tricep. Then maybe a little light weight the following week. I need to focus on my chest more to strengthen my overall bench anyway, so that's what I will do for next few weeks and leave the tricep to heal.

You'll have to do light upper body work as triceps are used at least indirectly in a majority of upper body workouts. Bench press does make use of triceps indirectly at least.

Tonight I'm pretty much all cable flies. Trying to hit pecs good with out pushing on triceps. Figure next week I should be able to do dumbbell flies n such. Just finishing my workout now and have managed to not aggravate anything lol.

Cables are great for all kinds of exercises and I do them as well

Update as promised. Have stayed off the tricep until tonight. It's been ten days since injury. I went with some very light benching to see how things would go. When I got to 225 on the third rep I felt something, so stopped and backed weight down to 205. Did a couple more sets of just 8 reps. No need to push it this week. I attempted db military presses, but that was a no go. At my beginning warm up weight of 45lbs the tricep just didn't feel comfortable, so I nixed that for another week. All in all I'm glad I can put weight on it, and I'm hopeful in two more weeks to be back close to where I was preinjury.

Yes continue to go light with the weight as the muscle is still healing at this stage, so that's a good sign things are going on the right track.

Your pics look like my gym?....shit.

Nah, I kid man.

sucks to hear that happened man.

Here is my advice...leave it the fuck alone for about 10 days. Then try to use light weight until 14 days..I mean like 135lbs bench.

I tore my nip doing BW dips, and then tore it worse warming up, shit gave out on me at 185 on the third rep.

Two weeks in on Saturday. Probably do same light routine Saturday as did Tuesday, just to keep things moving. Keep it at no more then 225 for now and short sets. Or I may skip bench Saturday and just do flies.

Hit bench again tonight, worked slowly up to 295x3 then down to 225x6. Then hit some tricep work and it's feeling good. Hope to be back full force soon.
