Close Hand Bench

Shit, thumbs touching?? My wrists just snapped in half thinking about that. I do about shoulder width like a few others said and just focus on keeping my elbows tucked

because you are spreading the weight into the pecs sharing more of the weight into another muscle group

True enough. For me it still feels like I'm getting as much tricep work in as when I went with a closer grip and lighter weight and I know it has the added benefit of reducing the stress on my wrists and shoulders at the same time.

How far apart are y'alls hand when doing close hand bench? Usually when I do them my hands are close enough that my thumbs can touch. When I see youtube videos, etc of other people doing them their hands are a little further apart.
Am I doing them wrong? Are there any benefits/drawbacks of doing them either way?
Around 4 inches apart for me. Any closer and it would be tough on your wrists. Think of a curling bar and doing skull crushers. Most people have their hands on the inside curve. About that distance is good.

For close grip bench press I place my pointer finger on the edge of the knurling just before the smooth part in the middle.

Are all Olympic or standard bars have the exact spacing? I've never actually looked at or measured this; just curious.
