Which one do you feel more sanitary Bottletop filter vs syringe filters

When it comes keeping things Sterile. Which one do You guys prefer. It seems like there's less steps in Bottletop filtration then using Syringe filters therefore less chances of contamination.

Well, going from syringe filter to sterile sealed vial there's no process in between to contaminate your product. But then again if you are good at what your doing and take the necessary steps to maintain sterility then the point is moot.

Also depends
On the amount your doin,, man i couldnt imagine doin 500ml with a syringe filter lmao

I used syringe filter once for 80ml and
I will never again, bottle tops all the way

What type/brand of bottle top filters do you guys recommend? I know some have issues with cracking...

@Docd187123 When you speak of media bottles cracking are you referring to plastic and glass? Seems it would be pretty hard to crack glass from the air pressure

Not glass. Only the plastic receivers break, usually at the neck where the filter sits atop. I forget if it was Nalgene or Millipore that had his problem routinely when around 10-12 PSI was applied.

Ive used plastic a few times and only had one break and it fuxking shit me, i had alot of tren in there lucky for my i was onto it and grabbed another filter. Mine split in the seam down the bottom. I could see a line of bubbles coming up like a sinking ship lol fair to say i shit em...

And another tip for glass media bottles (this is pure common sense but i still did it). Once u have sterilised in oven let the bottle cool at its own pace, i was inpatient and dipped in cold water to cool lmao fuxking thing pretty much shattered in my hand.... Fuckkkk

Ha! I've often though about speeding down the cooking for the media jars but didn't want it to shatter as you experienced. Those jars take forever to cool compared to the beakers and vials.

@Kinikuman @kap73 @Docd187123 @rutman What kind of caps do you recommend to draw from the medium bottle? I found these . I think you have to buy septas separate if you're going to use the open View attachment 34820View attachment 34821

Like @Docd187123 , I just fill sterile vials and draw from them for personal use. Unless you are using tiny media bottles the stopper will be too porous from the constant 20G pins drawing from it. Store the filled vials in a box or other container (I like plastic tackle boxes) to help protect the tops from contamination. Just be sure to swab the cap top before each use with an alky wipe.

I wasn't being clear. I meant after filtering is done do you take a cap similar to one of those above and use it to cover the media bottle to keep contaminants out. Then just draw through that cap to fill your smaller vials? Or do you just leave the media bottle open and just draw out through the open mouth and then fill your smaller vials? It would seem that using the cap would be easier because it essentially turns the media bottle into a giant vial that you can draw from to fill smaller vials. Just my two cents @Kinikuman @Docd187123

That's how I first used those caps but like Kinikuman said, you can get some issues from using them. I think I got a small piece of one in my oil when I poked through it with an 18g needle. I should check to see if it's still in there but I haven't used that batch yet so it's just sitting there.

What I do is just pour straight from the media jar into a sterile open vial then cap it as quickly as possible.
