Overhead Press - OHP - do you do it?

Fucking shrugging at the Top; gold dust. Can't wait for the gym tomorrow morning

Yep, just got back from the gym, did exactly that today. Good to do the shrug, could really feel the squeeze.

I'm a lightweight though, only 35 on each side. :-(

Did 3 sets with 8-10 reps strict with that weight, no hip or leg movements.

The right shoulder felt much better today, I think the seated stuff was putting me in the wrong position somehow.

Anything that supports you or supports the barbells path will always put you in a less then optimal position even if you can push more seated it doesn't mean you are in a more optimal position. The best shoulder rehabilitation is the standing OHP cause your body will always compensate in its positioning to avoid pain and avoiding the pain means you aren't aggravating it. So in conclusion I am incredibly biased in how I lift.

I just finished shoulders and traps about 30 min ago. Over head presses are a must! I warm up with seated over head presses on the smith machine. I usually do something like 2 X 12-8 5 maxing out at 140 lbs. It gets the blood flowing nicely and then I get busy with the dumbells. I prefer doing multiple sets and high volume sticking with my max weight most of the time.
I am not overly concerned with strength gains as that's when I usually hurt myself. I'm all about being pumped and vascular and having my delts look round like softballs. ;)

If that's you in your avi this surely must be working gangbusters for you. I did some seated smith machine ohp's today as well as well as a few sets of standing ones using 50lb db's as a finisher. Cable flyes and barbell rows plus some rear delt flyes are also a go-to.

Am dialling in the OHP. Standing raw in front of neck. At 60kgs, 140pounds, the pain control gets too much. Will probably hover in that space for a while and wait for the tendonitis to fuck off. Hope my shoulder fuck-up from my early days of lifting doesn't stop me. Its a cool exercise, and its a good part of off-cycle accessory together with abs.

What kills me is that right around this same pain point for the movement is where the therapy for my at-rest shoulder pain takes places.

Do the agonizing presses and my arms don't hurt when I lay in bed etc... When I skip the press due to pain, BAM, shit goes right back to hurting hen i sit around doing nothing.

My theory is that Rippetoe knows when I skip OHP and punishes me like a old Texan version of Zeus with a thunderbolt.

I also do the rippetoe standing version of the press. To me it's the second most important upper body exercise ( bench being first and bent over rows 3rd)The biggest side benefit is that it has really increased my bench since I started doing it.

My primary goal is bodybuilding but who wants to be all show and no go?

So I warmed up on OHP and planned on hitting some heavy numbers just for this thread.. But someone took my corner when I got a water. ( yes I stared at them )

But! I did then go to seated DB presses (nice and slow too) I managed to get 50x15 60x12 70x12 85x12 95x10 . Wasn't bad at all. Definitely made me miss doing OHPressing of all types.
