Yes it is a buchner filter. As long as you are confident in your ability to sterilize it, you should love it. Cuts down on the cost of bottletop filters. Only real problem I have had is once I had to much vacuum and it actually tore the filter so I suggest if using an inline tee with valve to control the vacuum pressure.Anyone tried one of these? They use a 47mm membrane filters that you can get in various material makeup like you can syringe filters. I couldn't find sterile filters but a little ba should take care of things or they could possibly be dry heat sterilized. The filter simply fits in between the funnel and the flask where the blue clamp is. I haven't got everything in yet but plan on an oil only run of about 250ml to test out.
I'll look that up. Thanks for the response. I will be using dry heat to sterilize it. I bought an electric pressure cooker but everything is still wet when I open it.
1 The male/female conncectors are called 'luer-lok' sometimes typed as 'luer-lock'Just looking for a good, semi fast syringe filter with both a male and female end so I can fill sterile vials.
I looked into bottletop but as a first operation I am looking to stay on a budget while staying sanitary. Only looking to filter about 1L of MCT and Cottonseed carrier. Thanks in advance.
i know they are called luer lock... there is a male and frmale end to a luer lock1 The male/female conncectors are called 'luer-lok' sometimes typed as 'luer-lock'
they are standardized so any syringe/needle works
2 top brands are whatman, nalgene, EMD illipore, corning, wvr
3 As you're not filtering any corrosive chemicals or solvents, pretty much any filtering material (i.e. polypropylene, nylon) will do
4 make sure they are 0.22 or 0.2 um and NOT 0.45
5 make sure they are sterile (individually packed)
6 this being said
you'd find plenty of Google results
just stick with large, true laboratory suppliers

im going bottletop filtration so I wont need sterile vials
i have non sterile vials that I am giving an alcohol bath and oven to kill bacteria before filling... then capping and back in the oven.Be aware that sterile bottles are a must
so either
1 buy sterile bottles, preferably the ones made by the same manufacturer as the bottletop-filter for a perfect fit
2 sterilize bottles in an autoclave before brewing
in an extreme example to show why sterile bottles are badly needed
picture yourself sterile filtering to a dirty toilet lol then drawing from said toilet to pour in sterile vials
obviously the toilet totally ruins sterility
