Syringe Filters

Hello everyone,

As I am preparing to homebrew for the first time I am trying to gather all the needed equipement.
This however seems to be a bigger challenge than expected.
Especially finding a source for whatman filters for a reasonable price seemed to be impossible.

Do the experienced users here think those would work aswell? They are the same material and have the same size like the whatman ones. I would use the caulking gun method.
Any one has experience with those filters?

Im in central Europe and I cannot find them on amazon or ebay. The only other syringe filters I could find were also some noname brand.

BTW where I am you also cannot find sterile,sealed vials or any ethyl oleate online in domestic shops.

Alright after doing some more research I found a nice source carrying Whatman filters in the UK which ships to my country for a reasonable price.

Buying sealed vials off of aliexpress should be no problem though, right?

I just used syringe filters for the time time yday and all I would say to you is if your brewing more than 2 vials I will never in my life use syringe filters again and if for any reason I was to use them I would find the best brand there is the ones I got were absolutely terrible and I used 5 filters to fill 6 vials I gave up and have half of my stuff still in the beaker covered in tin foil and ordered bottle top filters waiting for them coming now not wasting anymore time with they syringe filters spent hours just filling the 6 vials

That says a lot since I can dead lift 225x12-14 supinated. The calking gun rod bent a little. Haha by the way the flow wasn't any faster.
Actually after that I built a PVC shaft that slid into another one to push down on the syringe and put a cinder block on top. Filtered all by itself. I've upgraded since then obviously.

Holy shit! If it was that bad I wouldn't even shoot that gear (Just my opinion. I'm super anal.). Ya buy one Whatman and you'll see. 100x better. It's good proof.

Is this the right ones here? Can’t find out how much it can filter before needing the bin but they ones I had were like 15ml -20ml max

Could be a knockoff but that's them. Go to medlabsupply. They have all that you need.

Am from the uk and it’s not worth paying the shipping they charge for what I need tbh it’s like £75 shipping to the uk am sure it £50

I've got a couple of related questions.

To do the 60ml syringe and caulking gun method...do whatmans use slip on needles after the filter or luer lock type? Also...does the 60ml syringe need to be luer lock or slip on to accept the whatman filter? Trying to make sure I order the right stuff.

Also, when using a bottle top filter with a vac pump, are the filter membranes replaceable? I haven't seen just the filter media for sale anywhere.

Syringe filters materials are CA, MCE, NYLON, PES, PTFE, PVDF etc...

Does anyone know wich ones are the best and what is the difference?
I remember reading somewhere that PVDF is the best.
I always used PVDF but they are not sterile. Thinking to buy sterile CA filters but I would like to know what the difference is.
