Shopping List Feedback

So a few of you know that I'm looking to start brewing my own stuff....I've gotten lots of feedback and think I have a decent shopping list to put in. Before I do though I wanted to make sure that I'm not forgetting anything. Here's what I have so far:

Glass Stirring Rod 250 mm (9.8 inch) Glass Rod Pack: 20: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JM3A8SE/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2PKUPEZSPM9EP&colid=1F72BOMS7NT75

10mL Sterile and Sealed Clear Glass Vial - 25 Pack (Silver): Science Lab Sample Vials: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

That stuff plus I need some 18GA slip on pins, some MIG840, and fittings and hose for my vac pump filter set up. I will be getting some beakers as well. Maybe from amazon.

Do you guys think this will suffice to do my first small batches by hand syringe filtering and then when I brew bigger handle 1/2-1L at a time?

Anything I am planning on getting that you would substitute for something else based on your personal experience? Will I need various oils or will MIG cover it all with BA/BB?

After I get some feedback and get this ordered it's time to order the first round of raws. I have to say I am looking forward to it.

I still haven't found a good place to get an autoclave yet. I missed my shot at getting one from slapsale.com and have been checking back daily in case another unit pops up. Any ideas?

just a question... 20 glass rods, but you have a mag stir setup?

Trying to cover all angles of tiny batches to medium sized batches. Have I missed anything? I want to order it all at once so feedback before I do it is appreciated.

2.5cfm pump not 3.5

And that seems like an overpriced scale. Lol
I was thinking on the scale the .001 readout were the way to go. Is there a less expensive brand that's accurate you can link me to? My lab at work has super nice "balances" as they call them but they are 1k-2k in price.

Regarding the autoclave idea...im thinking a dry heat oven now instead based on the threads here I've read. We have vacuum ovens here at my job and also ovens that are nitrogen purged. Bet I could get one when they upgrade them.

Well I'm sure you will be capping your own orals at some point so might as well scoop it up if you got the cash. I don't cap and brew with rounded numbers so I have a cheaper scale.

Better to buy one scale now instead of realizing you need a more accurate scale in the future (lol which is what I'm gonna have to do)

Same with filtration. I thought I should use syringe filters to test the waters. But ended up buying a vacuum pump setup the next day. Lol

Great points. I'm thinking syringe filters for fuck ups and emergencies.

I'm hesitant on my bottle top filter selection though. Whatman vs. Autofil.

That's on my list...so that's what I will get.

I just ran the numbers, and with the exception of a dry heat oven or an autoclave, this little hobby will run me just shy of 1800 bucks for equipment, first order of consumables, and first batch of raws.

I really think that 700 in raws will turn into enough savings to cover what I'm soending just to set it all up. If not, certainly the next batch I brew would.

Can't help but be a little excited about this.

3 I didn't see any oil listed. Is that going to be store bought?

4 A vacuum trap bottle
proxy.php

this canister bottle smooths out pump pulses, keeps a more stable vacuum and prevents both compressor oil mist from eventually getting brew and BA/BB vapors from getting in the compressor.

5 Even if the pump has a gauge, it's better to have an extra vacuum gauge just below the filters.

6 For anything large scale, bottletops including Zapcaps suck
they leak, clog, media bottles break/leak, filtration rate ain't as fast as you'd like to believe
best to go all the way to Whatman Polycaps
mls_polycap_nylon_36as_2.jpg

easy, leakproof hose+clamp seal (don't overtighten clamps, remember it's plastic beneath)

1. I have a tent and some paracord. RVs are for sissies.

2. If I could read I'd get a real job.

3. Oil is Mig840 from medical site.

4. Seriously adding that to my list.

5. Below my filters is where the product runs out. Where/how to attach another gauge? To media bottle somehow?

6. Not worth my time to source. Not enough money in it. Won't need anything on that scale.

Shit talking aside...thanks for the info!
