If anyone is looking for whatman syringe filters...

I have 4 weeks remaining of my 16 week blast, as I’m going through vials of my stash, I noticed a couple vials had what looked like floaters. Could be the stopper, but these are still capped. So I figured either toss them out or filter them. Also, dealing with UGLs, regardless of who or how great, they are still ugl, right? Also, I have read some brother that are adamant about safely say that they filter everything.i don’t know how true that is. Sounds like a lot of extra work, but I don’t know, just learning as I go and willing to spend a little extra to further assure safety.

After you filter them buy a hot plate, some raws and the rest of the supplies and then never worry about it again. Filtering is probably the most important step so if you can do that you’re good.

You will insert a 23g needle to vent air out and an 18g needle to fill from your syringe filter.

I use a 25g vent and a twenty 23g on the the filter , it doesn't damage to the stopper as bad . after your done you cant even tell the stopper was ever punctured . It think everyone started using 18g needles because they think it will make the flow better , but the .22 filter throttles the flow so much the the 18g is pointless and the 23g flows just as fast without putting a huge pin hole in your stopper ..

18g needle to fill from your syringe filter.

Every vial from medlabgear had a piece of rubber stopper break off from an 18g for me... After about 4 I stopped and got 20g

Don’t think I’m ready for that l, yet. Maybe in a couple years,- few more finished product orders, learn some more, and if I still have the ball....maybe...it’s just a whole nother level.

Most/all Ebay/Amzn sellers ain't BBing stores
so you must buy different things from different sellers. Not a big deal.

Dont rely on the pic. Check Whatman part number and specs
Some Whatman models ARE tiny.

If you get a different part # than the one offered, contact the seller and complain to Ebay.

I meant that, while legit
they probably show another filter in the ad pic
so only Catalog number or specs can clear up which one is really for sale.

Problem is many of the eBay resellers are splitting a sterile box of syringe filters and selling them solo or in small multiples in a fxxking polybag or whatever! Pretty much totally defeats the object of being 'sterile' if they aren't individually factory sealed. Just looking at some of the listing photos you can see the filters are just planted on some guys kitchen worktop somewhere...

Definitely read the filter specs from the manufacturer.
Some come in individual blister packs .i.e. Corning.

And nonsterile filters can be made sterile by running concentrated alcohol through them, then discarding the few ml of oil that come out when first filtering gear.

If you want to sterilize a syringe filter use an autoclave (read this is many places BUT I have never personally done this)

Makes sense - but bit above my price range atm... I'm guessing the Pressure cooker method ( the poor man's autoclave) is ok for metal or glass but could well damage the membranes inside a syringe filter? Best option clearly - just get sterile filters in the first place!
