I never really thought of this and I never really had a trainer. I guess it's common knowledge but if 1 noob reads this and saves his knee the thread is worth it. Warning hard to watch but not the worst leg press fail vid out there;

 
That was cringe worthy!

He shouldn't have been fucking with that kind of weight.
He couldn't even pull off half reps with that, they were like quarter reps, if that.

Little Johnny learned a valuable lesson that day, i assure you.
 
We see it all the time! Seen a guy not long ago with 495 on the bar in the rack. He picks it up and proceeds to do shrugs. What he was actually doing was keeping his arms and shoulders still while he dipped his upper body down accomplishing absolutely nothing but holding that heavy ass weight. I was literally laughing out loud.
 
I can push that much weight easily but can't fully lock out the legs (can get to 95% lockout even wearing sleeves) without pain due to damaged cartilage in my knees.

Yes that vid's scary though.

Fat guy at a previous gym I trained at used to load up the bar with heaps of plates and do rack pulls from the pins. From halfway up his thighs. The bar literally moved 2-3 inches :(

I never had the heart to point out that he was wasting his time - at least he wasn't fingering the remote while hoovering in pizzas.

It would still strengthen/build his back rhough.
